Current News on the Casino Front

South Point has drastically (and without advance notice) changed their mailer policy.   It is now based on a three-month period instead of the old one-month one.  (Example:  October mailers were based on your play during June, July, and August.) Also, gone are all the old tier levels that had a set # of points to get a specific bounce-back amount.  Mailers are now based on  theoretical (theo), meaning how much average profit the casino figures they will make on the specific machine you play.  So if you have been playing the best VP paytables, your mailer has probably dropped to almost nothing, or even been  discontinued completely.  If you play the slots, perhaps your mailer is better!

————————

Read the fine print carefully when you receive casino mailers.  Many were excited when they got their Hard Rock mailer and saw 10x points on 10-10-10.  That is for slots only, not for VP.    A very common “speed-bump” to watch for.  Advance notice from the HR:  They are making major changes to their slot club beginning October 10.

———————-

Notice this same need to read the fine print in the following Coast properties senior promotions for October.  Don’t assume all properties in the same company have the same promotions.

Gold Coast – Mondays – 5x points for reels and VP
Sam’s Town – Thursdays – 7x for slots – 5x for VP
The Orleans – Tuesdays – 8 a.m.-4 p.m. – 5x on slots and VP
Suncoast – Tuesdays and Thursdays – 9x on slots – 7x on VP

Speaking of Coast properties, which are a part of the Boyd Gaming company, here is an improved promotion.  Use your B Connected players card at a local Rebel gas station and save 5  cents a gallon, up from the piddly 2 cents it used to be.  There is still a 15-gallon limit per transaction.

Charles, whoever gave you that story was misinformed. After presenting that coupon to the slot club I put $100 into a VP machine and when it was gone, which included wins as well as the $100 loss, I went back to the slot club and received my $100 free play. It always pays to double check everything.

I was in Las Vegas Oct 5-9th. I tried to use the las vegas advisors $100 free pay coupon at Terribles the player card person told me that if a won anything even a nickle i would be instantly disqualified. I asked if a lost $95 but won i nickle, she interrupted and said you get nothing! To make matters worse i couldn’t print the coupon at home so i walked from the Rio to the advisor and took the bus to Terribles dropped the slot card on the floor and took the bus back to the strip.

I’ve received the gas discount at Rebel. Jean is correct. You slide your B-connected card in the credit/debit card slot first, wait for it to accept, then when it prompts you, slide the credit or debit card and proceed as normal. I think it works the same if you pay cash too.

We’ve stayed here many times mostly due to the nice rooms and reasonable rates. Naturally, we have gambled many late nights here as our last casino stop before turning in…sounds like we need to change our game plan for next month’s visit. Thanks for the heads up, Jean!

Well looks like another casino tightening the screws on the players no more Southpoint for me.

  6. My brother and i are comming to Vegas in nov we were going to gamble at the Southpoint, but not anymore just when you think a casino is player friendly the bean counters take over.

Thanks for the info Jean,I was unaware of the changes at South Point as my October mailer was like the usual $30 free play per week for the 20000 points that I played in August on NSU and JOB.

  8. I don’t know exactly how the Rebel gas promo works. I think you can put your B Connected card in the same slot as you would a credit card. Maybe someone who does this the first time will post the details here in the comments.

With Jean’s blessing (and, actually, at her prompting), I would like to let the readers of Jean’s blog know that VPinsider.com now lists Senior Promotions in its list of various Las Vegas casino promotions. After Jean’s recent blog postings decrying the lack of organized information for senior promotions, we at VPinsider took it upon ourselves to compile the information for our users.

VPinsider.com is a subscription site, with an extensive database of video poker games across the country, strategies for the most popular games, and more – including detailed information on the Vegas area casinos’ slot clubs and promotions.

    Thank you Jean!

I wouldn’t go to SOUTHPOINT for VP. Their ad that they have LOOSE Slots is BS! I would say from my perspective they have the TIGHTEST slots around. Do not go there !!!!

My wife and I have stayed at and spoken highly of the South Point for the last three years. We thought Mike Gaughan knew how to attract business in the old fashioned way. Has he changed his basic approach and now will be like all the accountant driven casinos? (Judge everything by whether it makes profit for us and cut anything that doesn’t?)

I didn’t know about the gas deal at Rebel Stations. I guess not living in LV I miss many things so a big thank you for this. I will try to remember this when I fill up the rental car during my trip in Oct. How does this work.. do I need to take it into the station??
