Depends on the time of day. I use the buses exclusively and free shuttles plus tip. The SDX from downtown takes about 20 minutes to the showcase mall. Up until Prime time the Deuce is fairly efficient from DT to the northern part of the strip, after that it is slow.
My pass is $17, I use it from 18 to 20 trips. Cabs would cost???!! More than my plane fare.

Thanks, Jean. That was very kind.
I'll mention that most of my Vegas thoughts are on this site https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=22639031#allposts
And that this is another message board with great source of Vegas Information

I'm looking forward to this new book. Jean changed my vacationing life with her attitude, strategies, and details on how to enjoy Vegas without losing. She certainly earned the title of Queen.

(Edited by Jean Scott) Dewey's observations are worth reading. Not so much because of the specific information there, but to underscore the concept that what perks, comps, and deals are useful for one person may not be worth much to another. One point does stand out. The room cost for the length of your stay is (total losses + actual room charges)/number of days. He lost about $30/day on a recent trip, paid $10 a day in room charges, and ate cheaply for the most part. Call it a total expense per day of about $55. I doubt you could do that anywhere else, or at least anywhere else you would want to wake up and find yourself in.
I do disagree with him on one thing: using buses. It can take well over an hour to get from downtown to the Strip, as the bus stops once every fifteen feet--and I'm talking about the Deuce. The regular buses are even worse. You should ask yourself if since you are on vacation, saving a few dollars but destroying a couple of hours of your vacation day in the process is worth it. Of course, if you're going near the Strip in the first place or God forbid, staying there, tossing a $20 bill over your shoulder at a cabbie may seem like spending a quarter somewhere else, given that you're coughing up $200 a night plus resort fees and spending $45 on a buffet.
