Laurel Lounge is open at Harrah’s Joliet but only Fri-Sun. I really miss the one at Horseshoe in Hammond, IN, my primary casino. They used to feature a wonderful Sunday brunch buffet and you could sit in table looking out at Lake Michigan. It always made you feel like you were on vacation somewhere, just being able to look out at the lake. Honestly, it makes me wonder why I even worry about keeping my Diamond Status. They’ve stopped valet service as well so there are literally no perks for keeping your status.

enjoyed reading about trip. always fun have a travel partner to meet you. Commenet about check in Flamingo on a kiosk. Oh my and no front desk people, made me worry on safety a bit more. I always stay at Bally’s once Caesars and now they’ve gone and ruined changing Bally’s, whose name prob worth a fortune . They wasted that by selling. The Hilton was nice in Vegas. Switched to Borgata in At City. Used to do Hilton there years of great stays. Many good things about the Jewel of At City now changed. Sad . Get an all day breakfast is work now. No room service . Buffets closed.

Dear Jean,
It was great to read about your Lake Tahoe trip adventure and I love the photo of Brad after enjoying his pecan pie. We are looking forward to hearing how the gambling went in Lake Tahoe and still remember fondly helping you celebrate your 80th birthday at the Tuscany in Las Vegas three years ago. Like you, our energy level for gambling is waning but when we do play, we continue to be mindful of all you have taught us through your wonderful books. Wishing all good things for you and Brad.

Jean! I really admire the way you have stayed to take care of Brad as he progresses in his issues. That loving attitude is not shared with some others who choose to change spouses when difficulties, such as impaired movement or cognizance, set in. Brad is blessed to have you around, and I am sure that if he was able to express his feelings he would want you to have fun while you can.

I’ve never been able to do much gambling while visiting Tahoe; there’s just too much else to see and do. I’m in a place like that, I almost feel that I’m cheating myself if I stay indoors.

And of course, if you gamble there in order to get future room offers (and God only knows how much $$$ you have to dump to get that kind of consideration these days), then you’re inside breathing stale cigarette smoke instead of outside breathing the most wonderful air on the planet: “The air up there in the clouds is very pure and fine, bracing and delicious. Jean, I was tickled to learn in your last blog of your upcoming trip to Tahoe that I was arriving the day you left. Glad I didn’t have to compete with you and your friend for the good vp machines! No limo from Reno, but the same drop dead incredible beauty–in fact, it was hard to take time from it to go play. I’m glad you had a blessed getaway.

CZR still has Laurel Lounges in Atlantic City simply because all of the casinos in Atlantic City have VIP lounges. The ones in Atlantic City are only open weekends anymore and they aren’t as nice as the Amphorra Lounge at Borgata.
