And probably of interest to many mid-rollers too:
From vpFREE:
“The Palms has added 20 uprights in two banks by hotel registration with 25c/50c FPDW, 10/7 DB and 10/6 DDB.
Big signs overhead proclaim the good paytables. Of course they are stickered $4 per point and excluded from promotions.”
Best casino news I’ve heard for a long time. I do wonder about the motivation behind this “move to quality” and how long it will last. But I’m sure many frugalites will enjoy it while it lasts.
Larry………………U can still come to Las Vegas . Do not stay at the Strip. Downtown has improved with renovated Casinos(Golden Gate, new wing at Golden Nugget ,El Cortez) The restaurants are cheaper too.Try playing at the 4 queens or El Cortez. u get your moneys worth and u can win. Of course Golden Gate still has the great Shrimp Cocktail. Downtown also has a beautiful theater Smith Center. Hope u will reconsider.
Larry, you might want to consider Reno. There are many more decent VP opportunities there now than in Vegas. The rooms are also much cheaper, especially compared to Strip properties. Atlantis in particular has many good games and frequent comp multipliers, and they send room offers for very modest action. (I believe Jean has played and stayed there and also has a favorable impression of it.)
Another reason to consider Reno right now is that pretty soon, it will be 700 degrees in the shade in Vegas, while the weather in Reno will be perfect. Oh, and you can be in Lake Tahoe in an hour, which IMHO is the best spot on earth in the summer.
I am not a big VP player, and I’m not a local, maybe I’m just a frugal bottom-feeder. But hearing about the steady reduction in the number of “good” games, limits on points, etc. just continues to make me less interested in visiting LV. I visited 8 times in 2010, but not at all so far this year.
Thank you for the update,my wife will now play at Palms again.
I play at higher stakes with lower EV (not counting mailers) but at 50c on NSUD I will have to recalculate.600 hands per hour at $2.50 a hand= $1500 X .008 return= $12 long term hourly profit with perfect play, not bad.

That’s good to know. I thought Palms was headed in the other direction with their paytables. Still not happy about them taking out the kids station, but glad to see they’re adding high payback machines. Wish they were $1 and $2, but I guess that would be asking too much. Thanks for the update.
Ha. I had wondered just what the effect would be from removing that bank of FPDW frequented 24/7 by the local bottom-feeders. Apparently, there has been a ripple effect. Even Stations, it seems, dimly realizes that filthy no-good steenkin’ +EV VP players may have some value for the casino, in that they have bingo- and slot-playing spouses and relatives, or they themselves have a craps or horse betting jones.
Of course, with Stations’ favorite “you can play this game but you won’t earn squat for points” tactic, the games are still worse than they were in the Maloof days. But even 0.0625% slot club points kicks FPDW up to 100.8%, so the Palms is close to the best play in town once again. Until they yank the machines two weeks from now, that is.
