NOTES
Last month I talked about the traffic problems you encounter crossing the Strip at Flamingo. Some have commented that it isn’t as bad as I described. I do know that it depends on what time a day you try to make this crossing. But at 6 p.m. on Friday night, I still recommend DI as an alternative!

When I mention a food promotion, I usually just give the facts of the promotion, and not my opinion of the restaurant. Food tastes are so individual. I mostly don’t pan a restaurant, but occasionally I tell you when we like a certain one. But I really don’t even like to do that since I am bound to get a retort from someone that they had the worst meal of their life there. I can’t stand the pressure of being a food critic!!!!
PALMS
“Play, Earn, and Win” continues on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in October but with a shortened schedule. The first offerings run from September 30 through October 11. The second group is offered October 14-25. (Maybe the last week of October will be included in the November schedule?) By the pictures in the mailer it is all “stuff” this month.
It you want to earn gift cards, you have to play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On those days you can play and redeem points for gift cards to Costco and Albertsons from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The usual drawings continue on Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. Again you can earn 5x drawing entries from 8 p.m. until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
The finally-back-open-again car wash, for which we are slowly replenishing our stock of tokens (as Hall of Famers we each get 2 tokens a month), is still a frustrating benefit. So far it has been closed as often as it has been open. Wonder how much it costs the casino to keep it repaired and working?
Heraea restaurant, newly opened, is suddenly closed – permanently, I hear. Too many vowels in its name perhaps – I hadn’t even learned how to pronounce it yet? Would have been a good word to remember when you were playing Scrabble and you were frustrated with too many vowels on your rack. Oh, never mind, you can’t use proper names.
ELLIS ISLAND
Another change is taking place here in how they are going to give you your bounce-back. Starting October 1 everyone will have to activate their bounce-back at the kiosk and then download it in the form of free play at their machine.
EI went the free play route one time in the past – maybe a couple of years ago – but if I remember correctly it lasted only a month or two. Then they went right back to the cash coupons. I heard that this was due to so many customers collecting the free play for others. They wanted each person to come in themselves and show ID before they could collect BB. We’ll see how long this new system lasts.
FOUR QUEENS
If you like tournaments, you might want to consider playing here. They have some kind of tournament every month. Regular players get invitations to these and, depending on your level of play, they will include comped rooms and food.
GOLD COAST
Multipliers continue on Sundays this month. Check Scot’s Players Club Bonus Points list for the multiplier you can get – it depends on your tier. They have a 10x multiplier on Senior Tuesdays from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. but it is for reels only.
Pumpkin Patch Pick drawings, a popular October promotion, return on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:15 p.m., October 4-19. Earn 5x entries on Thursdays.
EL CORTEZ
They’re always giving away mouth-watering treats, i.e., White Castle hamburgers. Yummy this month is Russell Stover chocolates. Check out their many promotions on their Web site.
VENETIAN
The indoor canals will be “dry” until mid-October, due to a repainting project. The gondola rides are still available on the outdoor waterways. More details here.
HARD ROCK
I just noticed a new “senior” program here – 45+ Classic Hard Rockers. It figures you are “old” here at a younger-than-usual age. Special programs for these “ancients” Mondays-Thursdays. Check at the players club for details.
TROPICANA
Just received from them a large booklet mailer addressed to “Postal Customer.” Did they send this to every address in Las Vegas? In any case, it caught my attention with many details about promotions for locals. You might want to check them out: monthly loss rebates for slot players, matching status for premium card holders from other casinos, dedicated off-Strip entrance and parking, and spa and food discounts.
Report from the Hard Rock. Got to love the changes at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The Hard Rock has gone all out to create great value and incentives for slot and video poker players. Unlike most casinos The Hard Rock offers an incentive every single day of the week.
The October schedule offer MO/TU/WE: Play and Eat bonus 300/600 points TH: Free logo bag 1000 points FR: Earn points and win cash 6p + 7.30p SA: 7X/15X multiplier SU: Play and earn bonus cash 250 point = $5. Their new deal for senior players “Classic Rockers” starts at 45+ and offers 4 senior days weekly Mo-Th with 7X/15X multipliers plus play and earn Coke bonus starting at just 50 points. All this is in addition to the monthly bonus flier with free Play and food comps.
The beverage service is above standard and you can order high quality liquor unlike many other casinos that will sub your drink for a cheaper brand. The place is always nice and clean. Parking is easy and close to casino. Valet parking is less than 50 yard from the casino floor. Players club employees are super friendly and they rarely have any long lines. For the Play and Eat bonus and food comps I like to go to Pink Taco, 35 Steak, Mr. Lucky’s and Fu the new Chinese restaurant. This place is definitely my number #1 spot to go gamble. Good luck to all
We try and “double dip” by scheduling our normal LV trips over a Four Queens tournament date, which we are doing again this October. Not only do have some extra return based on your equity in the tournament, but they also have a pretty nice breakfast at least one of the two days. The tournament gifts are sort of hit and miss-sometimes they are something we want or is useful, sometimes not so much.
But it’s still a good deal. I recommend it.
Jean, you are so sweet love your attitude on life. Love your articles.
