EXTREME, EVEN WEIRD

I must be getting old and losing touch.  It seems like so much happening – especially on TV, but in the real world too – the operative word is “extreme.”  And the extreme whatever often leads to what I can only describe as “weird.”   I believe Las Vegas is the epicenter of this phenomenon.

“Extreme Kidnapping Adventure Service Relocates to Las Vegas” – the headline reads. Continue reading

Getting Old

Today Brad turned 82 – I hit 75 last month – this has got me ruminating on the subject of aging and gambling.  Brad and I are slowing down some; we definitely can’t put in the long video poker sessions we used to do in the past.  Two hours and I start looking at my watch and we start discussing our quitting time.

However, when we play on any casino’s Senior Day, Continue reading

A New Orleans Trip Report

NO-NY's Eve 2013NO New Years 2014

Our trip to New Orleans started in Columbus, GA, where we had just spent the Christmas holidays with the Frugal Princess family.  Now it was time, December 29th, for a road trip with my daughter, Angela, and her hubby, Steve – a perfect way to celebrate my reaching the three-quarters-of-a-century mark.  Continue reading

Casino Marketing Partnerships

Cross-marketing has always been a technique used by casinos, but it is really picking up steam these days.  Umbrella companies send offers to customers, not just for their home casinos but for sister – brother? –  properties.  Caesars Entertainment is big on this.  We get invitations to their properties across the country, many we have never visited before.  And this is not happening just within one mother company.  Continue reading

The Frugal Poll

Recently the Las Vegas Advisor ran a poll about the most frugal thing you’ve ever done in Vegas.  The results are in and they are hilarious:  http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/poll-arch.cfm

One of the comments mentioned “… and looked into trash cans for discarded coupons. [Ed: Dumpster diving for coupons? Wow, not even Jean Scott does that – LOL. Hardcore!]”

Thank you, Editor, for trying to make me look good, but actually I HAVE done that – much to my daughter’s dismay and embarrassment. Continue reading

JANUARY VEGAS PROMOTIONS

My quote to remember and strive for in 2014:  “Always try to be a little kinder than is necessary.”— J.M. Barrie,Scottish writer and dramatist

Sorry this report is a little late – I like to give you a heads up by the first of each month.  However, Brad and I just returned home from a 12-day family vacation, in Columbus, GA, and New Orleans so now I am plowing through a tall stack of casino mail to see what promotional goodies I can share.

FAMILY HOLIDAY TIME

image

Posting from Columbus, GA, on my iPad (which I don’t know how to use very well).  Actually Brad and I are having more fun than we can barely survive.  First, Christmas with the Frugal Princess family, which we just found out from Zachary and Taylor now includes “Nugget” who in August will make me a great-grandmother!  (Brad became great a long time ago.)

Then came the graduation party last night for Angela and Steve, who after starting their college studies some 25+ years ago both finally got their BS degrees.  With 50+ of their friends and their kids’ friends we celebrated with dinner and a DJ orchestrating lively dancing and hilarious karaoke. The picture above shows the family just before the party started, before Brad and I were panting after dancing to “Rocky Top.”  The next ones were taken later.

After a day of recovery Steve and Angela are driving us down to New Orleans to share our 7 Star New Years Eve Retreat at Harrahs. Gambling takes second place to family, but it is fun when they can be combined.
