Changes

Okay, I’m going to try to blog again and hope all the Web site problems are solved, with no more multiple notification e-mails.  Do let me know if you get more than one – at [email protected].

Players Club Locations

I have noticed a new trend in casinos, combining the cashier and players club in one area, with the same personnel handling both kinds of business. Continue reading

Technical Issues

If you have subscribed to get e-mail notification when I post a new blog entry, you probably guessed by the recent multiple duplicate e-mails that we have had Web site problems.  Hackers, spam, viruses – the Internet is full of our enemies!  However, it looks like the problem has been fixed – I surely hope so!  However, if you do get multiple duplicate e-mails of this blog entry, I would appreciate it if you would drop me a personal e-mail at [email protected] .   Just put the number in the Subject line, i.e., 4 e-mails.  No text needed in the body.

On another technical issue:  It has just been brought to my attention that some people are missing out on reading many of the “Comments” because they never go back to a blog entry after it is first published. Continue reading

What is a “Day”?

Where can you use your Caesars Total Rewards players card?  In 40 casinos located in 13 states and one Canadian province.  Although all these casinos are owned and/or operated by Caesars Entertainment, there are only a few rules, or policies, or programs that are the same in all these 40 casinos.  No wonder players find it a never-ending quest to find out the information they need to maximize their use of the Total Rewards loyalty program.

To help you, this is one of the continuing discussions of this mother company with so many “children,” all who exert their individuality by taking the few general “family rules” and then running in 40 different directions.

One of the most recent examples of this is on the subject of a “day.” Continue reading

Food and Entertainment Notes

Brad and I don’t visit casinos just to play video poker; casinos provide most of our entertainment choices and many of our meals.  So here are some notes I took on non-gambling activities in Vegas while we were tooling around town.

Shows

We don’t go to casino shows as much as we used to even though we could get many of them comped.  Is it a sign of old age that we prefer to spend our evenings at home?  Perhaps, but another factor is that we have already seen most of the major shows down through the years. Continue reading

How Others Do It

Today I want to get away from “my advice” and give you examples how other video poker players do things.  We skilled gamblers don’t all march in step.  We each have our own unique gambling goals. Our bankrolls and thus choice of machines are all over the place.  We have very differing personalities.

So here are some personal stories that people have e-mailed me privately or shared on the vpFREE forum.  Maybe they will give you some good ideas you can use! Continue reading

September Casino News and Promotions

First this month – a traffic tip.  No matter how far out of your way you have to drive, avoid crossing the Strip at Flamingo.  You will thank me for this advice.  With new lane closures on Las Vegas Boulevard between Flamingo and Tropicana due to construction –  and drivers who seem to never have heard that you must not enter an intersection unless you know you can clear it – you might find it can take “forever” to proceed east across the Strip on Flamingo because of north/south traffic blocking the intersection.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

This is just one new reason we avoid Flamingo (which is only 2 short blocks from our condo). Continue reading

The Frugal Princess Visit – Part 2

Las Vegas – living here or visiting – is not all about gambling.  Here is the Frugal Princess report I promised you, about a Las Vegas “Adventure” that takes you far away from  smoky casinos and into a wonderful fresh-air world of nature.

(My  remarks are in brackets.)

The Frugal Princess Visit – Part 1

Recently Brad and I enjoyed a real treat – a week-long visit from daughter Angela (the Frugal Princess) and her retired Army Ranger husband, Steve.  This was a rare adults-only trip since their kids had already enjoyed their own visit earlier in the summer.  They had more time for gambling, and Angela particularly enjoyed returning to her full-pay Deuces Wild game at the Palms, which has been her favorite since that casino opened.  (If you have read More Frugal Gambling you know that Angela contributed much to that book, Continue reading

Free Room Lottery is Over

The drum is closed!

I offered these gift certificates because I was feeling bad that so many of our comps go to waste.  Now I am feeling bad that so many of you wanted to “win” but didn’t.  Oh dear! 🙁 However, a lot of you did state that you would still like me even if you didn’t score a free room.  Thank you!

The winners have been notified by e-mail.

Probably I will have more of these “gift certificates” to offer in the future – so don’t give up hope!

Free Room Comps to Share

We throw away hundreds of dollars of comps every month.  Although we share our comps as much as possible, it pains me when there are just too many to use when we have to actually be with the person(s) with whom we are sharing.  We can’t just give them the comp to use alone because it has our names on it and usually ID is needed.

But finally we received some comps that the casino actually wants us to share – and we don’t need to be involved.  Caesars has sent us several “gift certificates” that entitles our family or friends to spend two free nights at Caesars Palace.  We would like to share these with some of our faithful readers here.
