The Problems of a Gaming Writer

This is an article I wrote back in 2002 – and the problem still plagues me!

———————————————

Writing about casino gambling is never easy. A gaming writer has to be so careful. I go to Herculean lengths to write as accurate information as possible at all times. But despite my best efforts, I face some real problems in getting you up-to-date and accurate casino and gambling information. I thought this month I would share with you some of these problems. I don’t want your sympathy, but perhaps this will help you understand why you might sometimes question something I (or other gaming writers, who have the same problems) have written. The Airline Bump

Bob Dancer’s column this week was about a recent experience when he volunteered to be bumped from an airline flight.   This got me thinking about some of our similar experiences.

Actually, the airline bump has been one of our favorite frugal ideas since our first one at the Las Vegas airport in March of 1985, when we scored $800 from TWA to delay our trip back to Indianapolis Continue reading

Favorite Quotes

I have just been going through some of my old “Use-Sometime” files and found a lot of quotes I have collected over the years.  One problem is that I have not always been careful in recording who authored these words, especially those on Internet forums.  But the ideas are so wise – or humorous – that I want to share them, and if you see your pearls, please acknowledge your ownership in the “Comments.” Continue reading

Angry Gamblers

Last week I wrote about people who really can’t take losing in a casino, referencing an article about players who take their anger and frustrations out on the machines.  And just a few days after I wrote that, Brad and I walked into Tuscany’s, where we were guided by numerous employees around the front door, helping us avoid a large area covered with glass.  Evidently machines aren’t the only target of angry losers. Musings on a Hot Summer Day

It’s blistering hot here in Vegas this week – but I probably will skip the new ice cream shop in Harrah’s.  IcePan has a brochure that tells you about their new method of making their icy treat but warns that you may have a little stomach trouble after eating it. Continue reading
