Senior Discounts – Not Just in Casinos

Here is a long list of senior discounts sent to me by Bill Clark.  I was surprised at how extensive this list is – and it is especially useful that it tells you when each business decides you are “old.”  🙂 Continue reading

Here are some questions asked of me recently, either in the “Comments” or in private e-mails. By the way my e-mail address is queenofcomps@ cox.net. I do try to answer all e-mails as soon as I can. However, please don’t ask me broad questions Continue reading

Time Marches On

Yes, it is true Brad entered a new decade of his life.  He turned 80 on January 18 while we were at the Horseshoe in Hammond, Indiana.  It was a great time to use up a Harrah’s Seven Star Celebration Dinner at their fine steakhouse. Continue reading

When to Change Machines

Awhile back there was a very long – and sometimes heated – discussion on the vpFREE forum about losing streaks and when to move from one machine or game to another.  Some of the “math people” chimed in with numbers, and formulas, and percentages – all good information to prove their points.  However, I finally came into the discussion to help out those who just wanted some general guidelines without doing any complex calculations.

Here were my non-math comments:

If you are doing a negative play, move around and change machines and games as much as you want, for any old reason, logical or not.  Continue reading

Spinning a Yarn

I want to recommend a new book by my friend, Barney Vinson.  The Big Spin is fiction but I have often heard Barney talk about his experiences working in casinos down through the years, so I know that this a true-to-life story.  It is a tale of the old Vegas, showing the glitz and glamor side at the top but with a dark underbelly of mob influence, crime, and a mortal struggle for those at the bottom.

If you like to read about how Vegas life used to be Continue reading

Is It Random?

This is the month that many video poker players look back over the figures from the previous year as they start working on their taxes.  And if they lost – especially a lot or more than usual – they start wondering whether the casinos are “messing” with the machines so they don’t give you as many jackpots or good hands. So suddenly the Internet forums light up with spirited discussions about the randomness of casino VP machines. Continue reading

Hammond Horseshoe Trip Report

We recently took a trip to the Chicago area, flying with friends who, like us, needed to “use up” a Harrah’s (now known as Caesar’s but I will never get used to using that name) 7* freebie trip before it expired the end of March.  Yes, I know leaving sunny, seasonably warm Las Vegas for Chicago in January seems like a really dumb idea – but if you know me you know we make big efforts to get to places that offer good video poker. Posting and Hoping

I had been warned that even the new improved “Bandaid surgery” to remove a gallbladder was no walk in the park, but I was optimistic that I would be as good as new with just a few days of rest. Wrong! I tried not to overdo it, but, hey, my family was here and we were having so much fun running all over town for a week. I could always rest later. Continue reading
