My son started on the AT on 2/23, just a little bit earlier than your granddaughter. They may have met up at this point. 🙂
By Oct 24-26 they both have to be done hiking as Mt. Katadhin (the northern ending spot) closes on October 15 due to weather (actually most thru-hikers plan to be done by the end of September at the latest as conditions get very ugly any later).
At this point, they are both past Cherokee. My son will be in Hot Springs NC soon.

Thanks for the update Jean, and I hope your vacation to Cherokee goes well and you are able to spend some quality time with your granddaughter. My wife and I just got back from a three day vacation in Vegas, where our room was comped and we only paid for one meal, at the Olive Garden on Flamingo when we took our son’s longtime friend, who is studying at UNLV, out for dinner. Our play was pretty good and although I didn’t hit a Royal, I did get a few quads, but no kickers. All my best to you and Brad.
