"I get tired of hearing that a female rape victim is NEVER to blame. There is more than one way to say “Yes” than with words out of your mouth. "

Your tax story seems to offer a very good reason to NEVER gamble in Indiana, or any other states that engage in legalized theft of gamblers' winnings. You may have recovered your stolen money, but only after a great deal of trouble, which means that the vast majority of victims don't: the amounts are usually too small to justify the extensive fight necessary to recover them.

At least the IRS realizes that a jackpot is not the same as a "win". I've been quite successful with them in this regard--probably because I DO pay my taxes on my ACTUAL winnings. And you don't need to file a Schedule C as a "professional gambler"--you just need to keep decent records.

Of course, all this will be moot when decent VP finally disappears completely, and slot clubs pay 0.00001% in free play or comps.
