I can not say as I support the political ideals of AARP, their discounts do help us senior citizens. Currently I enjoy a 10% discount on my AARP Medicare Supplement plan. This is reduced 1% a year for the next 9 years, but still a huge saving.

This monthly savings allows more time at the casinos.

Where does it say the column is about gambling? Doesn’t it say \Frugal Vegas?\ Don’t you eat when you are in Vegas? The column is in the \Las Vegas Advisor.\ It is not strictly the Las Vegas Gambling Advisor. There are articles and links about food, shows, hotels, things to see and do, swimming pools, and many other things than gambling. Many of us appreciate all the kinds of advice provided here. If it doesn’t suit you, you don’t have to read it. Leave the rest of us alone.

The Kohls senior discount is available only on Wednesdays. The AMC Theatres discount is available only on Tuesdays.

Nice list, Jean, but a few caveats. For example, Denny’s will not let you use any AARP discount (ex. $1.00 coffee) if you want to use a coupon. That probably holds for most of the restaurants listed, with the exception of McDonalds. We seldom use the “senior” discounts at restaurants and retail stores because we use the larger discounts afforded by various coupons. But it’s good information to have if one has no coupon or other discount. As for the hotels, we DO use the AARP and AAA discounts, but quite often we find they “aren’t available” to some of our destinations or during certain times – i.e. basically the same as the caveats for other discounts at the better hotels. We definitely use the senior type discounts for car rentals.

Harris Teeter used to offer a senior discount of 5% every Tuesday, but a couple of years ago they moved it to Thursdays. The discount is still 5% of your total purchase before taxes, except for those items on which state law does not permit discounts. Also, with most businesses you have to ask for the discount since they don’t want to insult their customers by assuming they’re eligible when they may not be.
