Went to Mandalay Bay and played slots for 3 days and also tried Binions Casino . Slots were terrible – you could go thru $500 in five minutes . Percentages have to be turned down . Have a casino in Long Island NY slots are noticeably much looser . Didn’t come across one machine that would at least keep you entertained for a few hours . Bonus rounds almost non existent –
I will say the food and pool were great .

Stayed and played at the M in mid. Sept. Got one royal but overall broke even on heavy $1. VP. So far not a peep out of the M. My wife and I then went to Gold Coast and the action continued. I estimate we lost 1k in the four days we stayed. Still no fliers. Thought we’d be getting plenty in time for December. But..not a one. Nothing. Zilch. Nada. So we simply wont make any holiday plans for Vegas.

I can corroborate the phenomenon of the quality of mailers you get being correlated to your results, not your action. At South Point, Boyd casinos, Station casinos, and almost all other Vegas casinos I’ve given my action over the years, a bad trip gets me offers. Doing well makes them dry up. South Point has been the most egregious in this regard. I’ve done quite well there in the last 3-4 years, and as a result, I get nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Just before that, I went minus $1400 in one weekend and got multiple free room offers + free play. Message clear as a bell: don’t win, or we don’t want your silly face here!

The two casino groups that are exceptions to the above, at least in my experience, are the Icahn group (AZ Charlie’s, Strat, Aquarius, etc.) and lil’ ol’ Emerald Island/Rainbow in Henderson. Those places, action=offers, regardless of results.

The fact that offers should ALWAYS depend on action, not results makes me wonder if the people running the casinos these days even understand gambling.

Darryl McEwen tweeted awhile back that the Seven Star insider would not continue after July/August of this year. It took too much work. Can’t blame him, I think all us old timers are starting to slow down.

1. Thanks for the mention of Darryl McEwen. He (and Seven Stars Insider) has been a GREAT resource for me. Plus, he has been a very good person with whom to correspond. I hope he’s okay.
2. Very sorry to hear about Hedy Valledolmo. I always enjoyed her and Tom’s trip reports. Sincere condolences to CoachVee. They seemed to have had lots of great times together and I hope Tom holds those memories close.
