Surviving a Major Move

Hello – finally – from Georgia!

I knew this move would be a lot of work – but it has been more exhausting than I expected –  and taking us longer to get settled .  I guess we had more energy at 60/67, back when we moved from Indianapolis to Las Vegas 20 years ago.

But we are happy to be in our new Georgia home, albeit surrounded by unpacked boxes.  I love apartment living already.  Toilet won’t stop running – call maintenance. Door sticking – call maintenance.  They cheerfully fix, change, or tell us how to operate anything.  However, one thing they can’t fix is the weather. Our umbrellas and raincoats are getting a heavy workout.  It will take time to adjust to heavy humidity!

It is great to be near family.  These three great-grands will keep us young – if they don’t wear us out first!  🙂

We haven’t had time to miss Las Vegas or gambling yet – too busy getting settled. But I just heard something on the news that I just couldn’t believe.  All the state political talk  here is centered around whether Georgia will finally legalize gambling, with the push for a casino in Atlanta.  But then I heard the governor speak about this subject and he said that other cities around the state were interested in also having a casino.  Then he went on to mention that an official from Columbus told him their city definitely wanted to be included on that casino location list.

Hummmm….wonder if he had found out the Frugal Gamblers had moved to Columbus and might give a casino here a big boost.

Naaaaaw…

Great to hear your move is done. So glad we were in town to meet you at the Gold Coast. Thanks for taking the time to do that. Jim and Kathy from Cleveland, Ohio.

Jean hope all is well in Georgia! Must be light in the mailbox now…lol. Wanted to know if u are still taking in any LV/gaming questions? If so do you have a link to ask a question? Thank you.

    Jean and Brad:
I want to thank you both for letting us all live vicariously through you. We all remember our first Royal or the feeling of staying in a room that was comped (especially after winning a sizable jackpot!). Reading your stories for all these years brought many of those moments back. We never did meet you in person but I want you to know that my wife and I, and, indeed, millions of your fans (friends?) wish you and Brad a very relaxing second retirement full of love, family, and friendship. You enriched all of our lives over the years and probably helped our pocketbooks a bit also.
    Have a great retirement!

    Love the New Years picture.
I am sure the pace and apartment sound restful.
You can rest anytime you want and not rush off to drive or redeem an offer.

The WEATHER well that’s the South. Love the desert for Low humidity.

    Hello, Jean,

So sorry I missed saying goodbye to you and Brad before you left Las Vegas. I didn’t arrive until after you had left.

So glad your move has gone smoothly so far. Take your time unpacking all those boxes.

    Best to you and Brad.

Maybe we shouldn’t discourage locals (of Columbus, GA) from patronizing local casinos just because the odds on the games would be worse than on those in Vegas. Why? Because for most of those people it would cost well over $400/person to travel to/from and stay in Vegas, and the amount of money they would lose in Columbus might not be $400 more than they would lose in Vegas.

So good to hear that you made it and are settling in. We are visiting the Palms this weekend on an offer that we can’t refuse. I will reminisce about meeting you there way back in the Maloof days.

  9. Kevin Lewis says:

Not likely that any such casino would have any games you would be remotely interested in playing…but I make it even money that if a casino opens up in Columbus, somebody there will ask you for an endorsement or a celebrity appearance or autograph session or something.

Of course, you’re not going to say that your frugal advice is “Avoid the Columbus Golden Peanut Casino!,” even if it’s the truth 🙂
