We used to actually book flights purposely on the busiest flying days of the year. Often, we would request first-class seating on the replacement flight as part of our compensation, and you would be surprised at how many times they accommodated us. From their perspective, they would not be profiting off of the first-class seat by providing it to someone in their loyalty program as a free upgrade, but saved a lot of money by not having to pay us as much for the bump. No middle seats for us!
