I would like to hear a professional’s opinion concerning back offs. I wonder if the casinos’ obsession with backing off advantage players is not just a matter of finance but also a matter of pride. I am thinking that the ego of many of these casino executives is threatened by knowledgeable gamblers who may be just a little bit smarter and more savvy than they are.

Of course it’s pride! That’s why the casinos all fought and sued Ivey. It was so embarrassing to get whacked in such pedestrian fashion (an obvious move by anyone who knows anything in this business), that they tried to brand Ivey as a cheater. Most APs who are being chased or barred are called “suspects” and their activities are variously called “cheating” or “a scam” or “collusion,” etc. Guys like Zender claim that casinos look at APs as a business expense, but that’s OFTEN simply not true. MANY casinos or the bosses on duty take it personally, and their pride causes them to take all sorts of countermeasures and egregious actions that are not at all profit-maximizing for their business. For instance, why would a casino ever backroom a card counter and subject the casino to a lawsuit? Some combination of anger, pride, paranoia, and idiocy. Doesn’t help that they listen to fake casino “consultants” who charge a fee for their fear-mongering seminars!
