Regarding AutoSlash.com when booking a car rental using “Pay now with AutoSlash” or “Pay later with AutoSlash” instead of “Pay later with Priceline” and you need to cancel make sure you cancel directly with AutoSlash and not just Priceline. This ensures your reservation is actually cancelled and that a credit is issued for your cancellation if you prepaid. I would recommend always using “Pay later with Priceline” to avoid such a situation and the fact that you can enter any car rental company loyalty info when booking with Priceline. Also, not sure why there’s no login functionality for their website since they handle certain bookings.

Hertz is horrible. I don’t know how it came to this. They were known as the premier company for decades. This applies to their other brands, Dollar and Thrifty, as well.

I rented a car in Oakland, Calif. in winter, started driving over the Sierra Nevada, found that the car had no heat, and turned it in at the Reno location. They refused to furnish me a suitable replacement. They then billed my credit card at their “standard” rate for a day and a half, amounting to about 2/3 of the contracted amount for a full week. They refused to adjust this! When I wrote the corporate office a demand letter, they refused to even look into it unless I paid them a $25 up front fee to research their own records!!

At 36:16 Jimmy discussed the Caesars “MasterCard” – I believe he meant to say Visa. As far as I can tell, there is no MasterCard associated with Caesars properties.

    Jerry,

I didn’t quite follow what you were trying to say. I don’t typically do the ‘pay now’ option. And Autoslash doesn’t even take credit card information for a pay later reservation.

Are you talking about booking directly with Priceline vs with Autoslash? I’ll take a look at the websites for each.

The point I was trying to make is that Autoslash is not longer the turn key operation that it was. The rental car companies have made it harder for them to do their job

A correction to my statement about the senior discount at Four Queens. We ate there on 10/30/22, before the Binion’s/Four Queens merger. I double checked my bill and indeed, 20% of the entree cost was deducted. It turns out that taking 10% of the entree, app and split plate charge wound up being $0.20 different than 20% of the entree for our particular bill.

I’m guessing the 10% discount will be on the entree going forward. I will confirm on my next Las Vegas trip.

    Jimmy Jazz,

I misspoke in my previous comment. I was under the impression that all bookings on Autoslash.com even the the ones where you pay with Autoslash instead of Priceline went through Priceline’s website. I now realize any bookings where you Pay with Autoslash do not go through Priceline.com. So if you choose the Pay now or Pay later with Autoslash and want to cancel the reservation, you can do that using the confirmation email Autoslash sent. Going forward I doubt I’ll ever prepay for car rentals even if it’s a better price because if you cancel then you need to make sure you get credited for the cancellation.

Overall I do find using Autoslash.com will in many cases get you the best price for car rentals. I always check with them, Costco.com, and directly on Priceline.com. I’ve also heard good things about Turo. If you don’t mind the extra hassle of meeting up with the vehicle owner, you can usually score a cheaper price with them. And if you’re planning ahead, I definitely recommend keeping an eye on rates or tracking with Autoslash since prices can change on a whim.

    Jerry,

When I looked into Turo, the cost was higher and there was an extra drop off pick up fee. If you have some more information on using Turo, I’d love to hear it. You can email me at [email protected]

Update on my Hertz sage. I contacted their chat, described my problem and they credited me with 500 Hertz points. Then they asked if they could do anything else. I said you could credit me with some more points and they added another 450 points. 950 points is enough for a base one day rental.

I’d rather they didn’t cancel reservations without notice but at least they made some effort to keep me as a customer.
