Mike Caro is such a joke. Physical tells matter almost 0 in poker. His book is racist and sexist. In this interview he keeps relying on “I’m Mike Caro, dammit, I’ve done the work and don’t need to prove it to back up any claims I make.” while also refusing to acknowledge the concept of metagame. Washed up joke. Enjoyed the ep, though

The value of tells are hard to quantify and are prevalent in the 2-5 game I play. For example, a bettor with a strong hand will often check his cards before betting, Also, an immediate call is often a draw or top pair type hand.
It would of been interesting to hear Mr Caro talk about cheating back in the draw poker era. Not to imply he cheated.

Mike Caro is the greatest, and is a very logical man. The only reason any of the other comments knock him or knock the value of tells is because they don’t know what they’re talking about. And that’s 100% guaranteed. Anyone with an ounce of perception and objectivity who has read anything Mike Caro has written over the years would agree with me. If you don’t, then you just don’t know. That’s their loss.

I’ve read close to everything this man has written since the 70s. He is strictly in a league of his own, no one comes close. I have also listened to every GWAE podcast since the beginning and liked every one but this was probably my all-time favorite. The poker community is lucky that Caro chose to publish his work and thoughts. He could have kept it all to himself. We are lucky.

Cheating at poker is the great untold story. But it is the third rail of poker. Many years ago Mike Caro did 6 hours of video tape with 3 men who claimed there was cheating at the highest levels of poker. I heard that he got death threats for making those public but it was not a topic I felt I could bring up. I believe those tapes are on youtube.

Just to be clear, I have at least an ounce of perception and objectivity, and have not only devoured his book of tells, but listened to him speak, in this interview, and elsewhere. That said, I disagree with you, and think your use of hyperbole hurts your credibility. Similarly, I think Mike’s use of hyperbole diminishes his credibility. What diminishes it further was his unwillingness to reach any level of depth in the discussions in this interview. He just rambled on and on about extremely vague things, spending far too much time asserting he is right because he is Mike Caro.

In this interview, Mike was questioned about his forecasts for the upcoming presidential election, presumably because they differ from commonly accepted as reasonable sources (538 and others). He did exactly nothing to back up his contrary opinion. As someone who occasionally invokes scientific principle, it should be a big red flag the Mike was unwilling or unable to go to any sort of intelligent depth about what differentiates his models from those of 538. And no, saying that his model is for popular vote day of doesn’t count.

Just to be clear, I don’t even know what hyperbole means.

Physical tells do matter in poker.

Caro favors Trump to win and I think he will win. Hillary Clinton is clearly a crooked candidate! She has a proven track record as a corrupt scandal ridden candidate, there is much blood on her hands, habitual liar, helped destablize the middle east as her time as Sec of State, over seen the bombing of Libya back into the stone age, Obama care supporter, NAFTA supporter, TPP supporter, BLM supporter, Soros supporter, she wants to strip Americans of their 2nd amendment rights and then let in the people that are going to butcher the citizens! Time to call a spade a spade!

Hillary is unfit to be President!

Lets not forget the pay-to-play scandal while her time as Sec. of State.

Even Google and other social media giants have altered their search query algorithms to throw people off of the Clinton Crime trail. It’s rigged! The mainstream media is RIGGED!

I agree. For simplicity, lets say a tell is worth 1 unit and act on 3 tells a session. If correct on all 3 tells, you earn 1 + 1 +1= 3 units. If your wrong on 1, your earn becomes 1 + 1 – 1=1 unit. This implies the need to be good at tells for them to be worthwhile.

Few tells are 100%. If a tell, physical, verbal, etc., can warp probability when you’re faced with a close decision and have nothing else to push you one way or the other, you’re going to be “wrong” a lot of times. Small edges add up over time.

Mike “The Mouth” Matusow has concluded that Hillary Clinton colluded with Lester Holt during the first debate.

“Four time World Series of Poker champion Mike Matusow agreed hand signals were indeed used by Clinton during the debate.”

What’s Caros take on the hand signals? For the man who wrote the book on tells, I would like to hear what Caro thinks about this?

    Mike’s new odds. Saturday, October 29, 2016 : Trump 50.9% ↑
    (Up 6.8% from yesterday)

    1.04-to-1 against Clinton

Right now I’m thinking landslide victory for Trump!

When I listened to the Podcast, I respectfully thought Mike Caro, had ‘gone’, and disregarded most of what he said, especially with regard to the election.

At the time, Clinton was -500, and she is now something like -300. That move, in a 2 horse race, has to be respected, and congratulated.
