In this episode of Dr. Nick and the Hot Aussie Chick, the Hot Aussie Chick is away and Dr. Nick talks with Poker Player, Stuntman and Actor Erik Aude about his new film that chronicles his false arrest and the three years he spent in a Pakistani Prison on the charges of drug trafficking.

Over his three years on death row Erik learned to play poker. He organized games and tournaments with other inmates where they would compete for prison life necessities and luxuries.

The story was first documented in the TV show Locked Up Abroad. As Eric states the TV show didn’t show the whole story. 3 years in Pakistan the Erik Aude story will tell the complete story of Erik’s time in jail.
Also discussed, is Erik’s involvement in the infamous poker games run by Molly Bloom as documented in the film Molly’s Game. Find out how accurate the movie was and how much was exaggerated for Hollywood.

What did you guys use for a deck of cards while in jail? I would have to imagine that the deck was worn out and perhaps the backs of the cards could be sorted out with an acute eye. I would also have to imagine that the cards were dirty which would help aide the poker player in identifying a card out of the deck by only seeing a smudge of finger grease on the back of a card or a crease, or how a card may be warped.
How many people cheated at poker in prison and what was the penalty for cheating in a prison poker game?
His mother sent him several decks of cards as well as food an other items.
In Pakistan, if family members did not send food, money, clothing, and anything else the inmates needed, the prison would just let them starve to death. Erik’s mother sent him just about anything he needed as often as possible but sometimes it took months for the boxes to get there. So I think God that he had other ways to obtain food while he was waiting for these care packages from the United States.
It was a good thing that his mom sent him the playing cards. Over time playing in such conditions the deck wouldn’t take long to get all gummed up with finger and hand grease the way Erik described the conditions in that Pakistani dungeon. He who holds the cards after the game can look for flaws on the cards after a game to study the flaws and find markings, which could give Erik an unfair advantage in a future game.
I wonder if Erik was full time dealer, this would offer him an advantage. Even letting the Pakistani players/losers deal would offer Erik an advantage just by watching their mistakes for the sake of teaching them an American tradition. I don’t think very highly of American poker players to protect themselves or a game, so I already know what I would think about the Pakistani prisoners if I were in a game with them. No respect for them. 🙂 Absolutely none!
