We’re getting a lot of questions about how the DraftKings free bet works. I was in New Jersey in January and got to try it out first hand. My account of that appears here. Actually, it’s not just DraftKings that’s offering this type of incentive, so the information here should apply (in most part) to similar bonus offers you encounter. Here’s how it works.
The key is your first wager after opening a sports betting account. The amount of that first bet determines the size of the free bet, which you’ll use by itself on a future wager. From what I could ascertain, the free bet is accepted on all propositions offered—including wagers with big favorite and underdog lines, parlays, teasers, etc. I bet the $500 maximum at -136 on my first wager after signing up, then used the free bet on a $500 2-team parlay at +229. I won both bets for a total profit of $1,516, with $1,146 of it coming on the free bet. Only the winnings (not the free-bet amount) are returned on a winning free-bet wager, but you also lose nothing if it loses.
While there may be restrictions on some wagers or a cut-off point at extreme take and lay numbers, all in all the DK sports betting bonus is exactly what it’s promoted to be. Note that you don’t have to live in New Jersey to fund an account. You just have to be there to bet. So this is really something that anyone who goes to Atlantic City or lives in a nearby state can do.
If you live in New Jersey or go there to bet sports, you can get in on this DraftKings bonus, plus get your choice of several incentive packages made up of our books, software, strategy cards, or LVA membership by going to our home page and clicking on “LVA Sign-Up Incentives.”
