I have a question and a comment. Was that game + ev after taxes? No normal person can write off close $6 million.

Hitting that $6 mill may he closer to 4 million after taxes, more or less, greatly affecting the ev.

Also, I strongly disagree with ev being ev. Imagine that after all factors with taxes, multiple winners, etc, the ev on the powerball is 10%.

The odds are something stupid like 150 million to one. Using the Kelly Criteria, those odds, and the 10% theo edge; the optimal amount to play for most bankrolls is probably a fraction of a cent. Aka, one shouldn’t play.

Let’s assume that you can get a 10% edge on powerball odds; you can’t spend 10 grand every time that this comes up and justify it by saying that ev is ev; and it’ll all balance out at the end of your life. You’d be throwing 10 grand away each time.

While not as extreme, this pai goa game is basically an automatic loss and one should not play while ignoring the losses by telling yourself that ev is ev, so its OK.

I almost always agree with Richard, but not on this one:)

You have to consider Kelly when making a play. It’ll basically tell you to always avoid astronomical odds, unless you can buy astronomical chances at winning.

Bob, I could not agree more with your point about lifetime EV. Pot shots skew your lifetime EV tremendously. Most people are not playing 200,000,000 hands in their lifetime. I’m not sure I’ll hit 15,000,000 in my own lifetime, which is likely it leave me at a high standard deviation. The way you handle big wins matters.

I studied the coupons and try to figure out which coupons I could use and which ones are basically worthless to me. While it absolutely may be true that waving the resort fee at a place in downtown may be worth something to some people, to me, honestly it isn’t. I would not stay at a Downtown casino even for free because of the noise and the atmosphere. I like the El Cortez and mention it because that place is different. The El Cortez is unique, it’s nice, the rooms are nice, and if you’re a gambler they treat you good. That’s why I have been loyal to the El Cortez for so many years now. I have seen the E-C before the remodeling, I have been there before and after, and I have also continued to visit (and gamble) after their changes. To me, it’s still a great place to visit. One thing that I can mention that needs improvement is the service standard at the Bugsy’s 41. There are times when the wait is just too long and this is inacceptable. Overall, however, I like the E-C and will continue visiting, even if I am awarare that I am sltightly under 100 per cent on my play. In other words, I expect to lose money there.

The 2023 Las Vegas Advisor coupon book may be ok but the price for International visitors is a joke. They ask 84 dollars for delivery and if you try to imagine how a regular “tourist” functions then you will soon understand that the price is too high as it is just impoassible to take advantage of all the coupons.

I have no idea what made them raise the fee to a degree that it’s almost double but after calculating all the coupons that I would be able to play or take advantage of during my stay, the 84 Dollar investment is just not justified. Therefore, I gotta pass on that one. The fact that Station and Boyd are no longe sponsoring the LVA and offer no discounts or gaming values is a huge cut. Therefore, in my opinion, it’s not justified to raise the membership cost by almost 100 per cent. Sorry to tell you that, but I will have to pass on that this time.

    From Switzerland

    Boris
