Stadium Blackjack uses a common hand for all terminals. Each person at a terminal makes their own play with what is referred to as “community cards”. So for example if you have the dealer and 2 players. And player 1 hits but player 2 stands, the drawn card only applies to player 1. After all players have hit, stood, split, double down, etc. then the dealer draws.
It is *almost* a heads up game in that if everyone playing plays perfect basic strategy then there are no *unexpected* losses (for those who get upset about misplays by other players). However; if a player hits when they should have stood, or split 10s or whatever, then of course you’re affected by that.
In some variations, if you stand and someone else hits, then the card the second player gets would be counted as the dealer’s card against you.
The places where I’ve seen this have all had European style BlackJack. 8 decks, continuous shufflers, with rules like, Resplit Aces, split any 10 value card, double on any hand, 3-2, H-17.
I enjoy the listener email episodes as usual and some really good questions are asked. Thank you to both Mr. Dancer and Mr. Munchkin for responding to these!
Thank you very much Mr. Dancer for mentioning my analysis on Face Card Poker (videopoker.com game of the week) during the commercial break!.
For the next listener emails episode…how hard has it been for Richard Munchkin to keep his face (and, I assume, his real name) out of the public eye/internet? Not asking for any trade secrets or disclosure; but maybe some stories about close calls of being “outed”, or how much effort it has required over the years. Thanks for the podcast!
