Thanks Richard for giving a clear update about how to think about free bets.
I think Bob is still making an underlying assumption that there is only one no variance strategy and that it MUST be true that higher EV strategies necessarily involve variance. As Richard explains, this is true for a single bets, the longer odds you bet the better the EV. However, when you put multiple online casinos into a combined strategy, there are a large number of potentially no to low variance strategies. Some of these have a lot higher EV than just betting both sides in coin flips. In other words, if you think a little harder, there are no variance strategies with much higher EV than Bob’s strategy.
Bob; I have found it a long process to decide what to bet and to set up my banking source for my initial foray into these sports books. You made it sound like a miserable process. I’d like to know more about what you were trying to do and how you were doing it; and tips to do it more easily if possible. I think this will help any listener who is new to sports.
My process has included learning what I want to bet first regarding amount of bet , the specific bonus, and which sports books (has taken a “couple weeks” of study and research – it’s all greek as a newbie). There’s a lot of fine print, and the ramifications of the rules aren’t immediately understandable to someone who is new; for example do you have to place a bet to get a match or will they match you upon deposit and let you just bet the matched bonus credit? One site will clearly not match the bet until you’ve wagered it one time through, while another site doesn’t say they won’t match your deposit pre-bet but leaves it to your imagination if in fact they will do so. I’ve accepted that this will be a mystery until I have the money in my new account at a particular book. If I don’t like the situation, I assume I can call them or message them, but even then, I don’t trust what I hear on the phone from somebody I don’t know who may be in their pajamas smoking some blue dream THC oil on their back porch! I digress.
Meanwhile, I made sure my banking option would work and I’m now waiting for my funds to show up as a credit at that wallet (3-5 business days). I’m hoping it doesn’t take another 3-5 days to get it from the wallet to the sports book, but I’m thinking that is exactly what will happen. I’m adding 3-5 business days for this.
Once I get money to the sports, am I going to run into even more delays before I’m allowed to wager?
These issues are where Bob’s experience may help me/others in their planning process. It seems like it would be wise to begin one’s setup and deposit process weeks in advance of when they want to begin betting. Then, there is the challenge of missing out on the bonus if the book doesn’t approve you within the time frame needed to place a New Member Bonus Bet; this would occur if you get a deposit made and you want a match bonus that has a deadline, say 7 days, but the book delays you 7 days and 1 minute or more because they needed a copy of a water bill or some other horseshit. Bob! More details please!
Richard; You had guests that actually brought these bonuses to light. If you purposely avoided mentioning them on this podcast, I’d find that curious and would like to know if there’s a reason to avoid them. They seem like a really good resource and a place to go for a better bonus and ev explanation than either you or Bob gave on this podcast (no offense but you just don’t have time on a podcast to lay it out and then rehash the confusing parts – it really needs to be in writing for close study or it needs to be spoken in a very well thought out and practiced manner….as evident by even Richard confusing himself….maybe he was in his pajamas on the back porch hit’n a lil blue dream oil glass pipe…. :-] ).
Thanks for the podcasts/blogs etc… Happy Thanksgiving!
This is a daunting process for those used to playing blackjack in a brick and mortar casino. We don’t hand out documentation like this. Additionally, doing so online is making me nervous.
