Why Do Casinos Do That?

I’ve got access to a stadium blackjack game. It has 8 decks, no resplitting, dealer stands on soft 17. They are putting cut car about 7 decks deep. Min bet is $5, max is $600. I’ve been able to sit there for weeks and only Wong in when count is favorable using KO. Any idea what bankroll I would need of spreading $25 to $100, of only betting when it’s +EV? Or any other wats to approach this?

Dee, that would depend on the risk of ruin you’re willing to tolerate. Also, the answer would be different depending on your definition of “when the count is favorable” and the trigger points for betting X units. For example, it would be an entirely different situation if you simply bet the max when the true count was +4, or if you bet $25 when the count was +2, $50 at +4, and $100 at +6 or higher, etc. etc.

You can also calculate the Kelly criterion bet size once you clarify just WHEN you’ll be betting (any positive count? only +2 true? only +4 true? etc.). For conditions where you can Wong in and out with impunity, you might want to go half-Kelly, given that you can easily pick and choose your spots.

I’m curious where you found stadium BJ that was 3:2. I’ve only seen it at 6:5 in Vegas (I assume you’re not playing a 6:5 game).

How about this question? If a play once match play coupon can only be used on blackjack, what are the strategy variations? (warning, it’s a trick question, you might want to check “grosjean beyond coupons” first)

It would be interesting if Richard could talk about the transition of top blackjack players into carnival game APs. How did grosjean influence the transition? Were top players concerned his book might get in the wrong hands and actually back fire ?
