Question of the Day - 01 June 2014

Q:
I happened to make the cover of the Las Vegas Sun back in January of this year. How do I go about getting some copies to hand out to my family and friends?
A:

That's an interesting question we haven't tackled before. Here's the lowdown.

The Las Vegas Sun is now delivered inside the Las Vegas Review-Journal, almost like a supplement, and the Sun's website informs readers that for this reason, back issues should be ordered through the R-J. A call to the latter was answered by a friendly lady, who explained that they only keep hard copies in-house for around one month, after which they go off to be pulped or somesuch. She also informed us that we would be better off contacting the Sun, which we did.

There, another helpful lady informed us they also do not keep past issues going back that far, but had you contacted her sooner she would have mailed you a complimentary copy. As it is, if you would care to email [email protected], she will happily provide you with some pdfs of the article that you can hand out to your friends. She requested that you give as much detail as possible -- date, headline, where the piece appeared on the page -- to make her life easier.

In terms of getting your hands on physical back issues of our local newspapers, both the Clark County and the Las Vegas Libraries hold on to archived copies, the former for four months and the latter for one year (although Las Vegas Library informed us that some issues from 2013 are mysteriously missing from their collection). If an article appeared within that time-frame, you can go in and make photocopies from the original. If they no longer have the physical paper, you can read and photocopy from the microfilm version. The charge is 40 cents/page at the County Library, located at 1401 E. Flamingo Road, or 10 cents at the Las Vegas Library, which you'll find at 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North. You can find more information, including phone numbers and hours, on the official Las Vegas-Clark County Library website.

Now, this only leaves one burning question: What did you do to make the cover of the L-V Sun?
