1. Know how to play the game(s) competently.<\/p>\n
2. Play the game(s) without making unnecessary errors. What I mean is that you\u2019re
\nable to concentrate and translate what you know into how you play.<\/p>\n
3. Obtain and keep the necessary bankroll to survive the swings.<\/p>\n
4. Be able to evaluate slot clubs and promotions.<\/p>\n
5. Have the discipline to avoid games where you do not have the edge.<\/p>\n
6. Have the emotional fortitude to put up with the swings.<\/p>\n
7. Be willing to put in the necessary hours for this to work. Video poker is a grind-it-
\nout affair.<\/p>\n
8. Be able to find additional places to play when one or more of your current plays
\ndisappear. This \u201cdisappearance\u201d can be that you lost your welcome, the game

\nyourself in the money is most important.<\/p>\n
Part of this is knowing about bankroll requirements for given plays and avoiding
\nthose that could bankrupt you. \u201cGetting lucky at the right time\u201d can be a part of getting a
\nbankroll, I suppose, but if you don\u2019t have money management skills, it\u2019s difficult to hang
\non to a bankroll.<\/p>\n
Over the years, I\u2019ve received a number of emails saying essentially, \u201cI\u2019d like you to
\nbankroll me. If you believe in what you preach, this should be an easy decision for you.\u201d<\/p>\n
And it is an easy decision for me. The answer is always \u201cNo\u201d unless I know the
\nperson really well and have a basis for believing in him\/her. A stranger who solicits
\nmoney via email? They have no more chance for me to send them money than that
\nprince in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Even those who assure me, \u201cI\u2019ve succeeded at virtually everything I\u2019ve done.
\nSurely, I\u2019ll succeed in this too. I just need a bankroll to start with.\u201d If they\u2019ve succeeded
\nat everything, why don\u2019t they have a bankroll? Obtaining money isn\u2019t that difficult for
\nsuccessful people. It\u2019s \u201csimply\u201d a matter of spending less than you make. (There can be
\nextenuating circumstances, but I\u2019d have to know a person pretty well and believe their
\nmoney problems are a thing of the past to be willing to make a bet on them.)<\/p>\n
Most people who don\u2019t have a bankroll have financial leaks in their life. If you\u2019re
\ntrying to save a bankroll for gambling, then tobacco, alcohol, recreational drugs, and
\nother expensive hobbies (Perhaps skiing? Vacations? Jewelry? New cars?) should be
\noff the table — or at least very limited. If you have your bankroll issues handled and
