(If inflation is so bad, where do Marylanders find all this money with which to gamble, one wonders? But anyway &#8230; ) After a month out of the top spot, <strong>MGM National Harbor<\/strong> was back at #1, grossing $68 million, a 26% leap by the lion. <strong>Maryland Live<\/strong> was not quite so buoyant, up 10% to $58 million. <strong>Horseshoe Baltimore<\/strong> tumbled 15% to $16 million, remaining the problem child of <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong>. Business was slightly slower at <strong>Rocky Gap Resort<\/strong>, up 11.5% to $5 million, while <strong>Ocean Downs<\/strong> cantered +22.5% to $6.5 million and <strong>Hollywood Perryville<\/strong> gained 22% to $7 million. Despite flat slot revenues, <strong>West Virginia<\/strong> casinos garnered 3% more last month, on the strength of robust (+18%) table win. <strong>Hollywood Charles Town Races<\/strong> was particularly fortunate, climbing 4% at the slots and 32% at the tables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\"><strong>Hard Rock Atlantic City<\/strong> is becoming unbecomingly chintzy. The following picture is worth the proverbial thousand words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"735\" width=\"980\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Hard-Rock-AC-slots-1024x768.jpg?resize=980%2C735&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30433\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Not resting on its <strong>Adele<\/strong> laurels, <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> is bringing <strong>John Legend<\/strong> to <strong>Planet Hollywood<\/strong> for a residency. The big-band <em>Love in Las Vegas<\/em> promises &#8220;a beautiful, soulful concert experience, showcasing Legend\u2019s greatest hits &#8230; a vibrant, colorful celebration of love and coming together.&#8221; We&#8217;re all for that. Tickets for the 24-performance stint go on sale to the <em>hoi polloi<\/em> on Dec, 13 at 1 p.m. Eastern time, assuming there are any left after various and sundry presales have been satisfied. We were moved by Legend&#8217;s interpretation of the title role in <em>Jesus Christ Superstar<\/em> and are sure he can work wonders on the Strip. It&#8217;s just a shame it isn&#8217;t a longer-term deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\"><strong>Paul Thomas Anderson<\/strong>&#8216;s <em>Licorice Pizza<\/em> may be a terrific film (we haven&#8217;t seen it yet) but don&#8217;t mark it on your Oscar betting slips if you live in <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> or <strong>Indiana<\/strong>. The <strong>National Board of Review<\/strong> awarded it Best Picture, Best Director <a href=\"https:\/\/nationalboardofreview.org\/2021\/12\/national-board-of-review-announces-2021-award-winners\/\">and two other honors<\/a>. The NBR is an unfailing Oscar jinx, having gone gaga over <strong>Bradley Cooper<\/strong>&#8216;s <em>A Star Is Born<\/em> (multiple Oscar nominations, one win) and hexing <strong>Spike Lee<\/strong>&#8216;s <em>Da Five Bloods<\/em> (one nomination, no wins). It&#8217;s like Academy voters see the NBR coming and flee in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Macao-chips.jpg?w=980&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7213\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Jottings<\/em><\/strong>: <strong>Macao<\/strong>&#8216;s imprisonment of <strong>Alvin Chau<\/strong> and the ongoing collapse of his <strong>Suncity<\/strong> junket empire has the potential to <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/the-end-of-junkets\/\">wipe out as much 25%<\/a> of the enclave&#8217;s gambling revenue. &#8220;On the upside, operators will be dealing with most players directly, for higher margins than they would realize under the junket model,&#8221; observes <em>Global Gaming Business<\/em> &#8230; Congratulations to <strong>Mohegan Gaming &amp; Entertainment<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theday.com\/local-news\/20211129\/mohegan-gaming-finalizes-financing-for-south-korea-project\">on fully capitalizing<\/a> $1.5 billion <strong>Inspire<\/strong> in <strong>South Korea<\/strong>. The news clears the way for completion of the megaresort &#8230; Just when it looked like the casino-selection in <strong>Japan<\/strong> was finally accelerating, another spanner has been thrown into the works. The mayor of <strong>Kuwana City<\/strong> wants in, restarting the agonizing audition process for wannabe casino operators. And nothing says &#8216;tourism&#8217; like Kuwana City &#8230; Having failed to sever craps and roulette from OSB in its court fight for sports betting, the <strong>Seminole Tribe<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/seminoles-shut-down-mobile-after-district-court-ruling\/\">will lose them, too<\/a>. It must have been nice while it lasted. <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong>, meanwhile, is suing the Seminoles for supposedly bribing its petition-gatherers &#8230; Prosperity on the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong> is not spilling over to <strong>Virgin Las Vegas<\/strong>. An unimpeachable <em>S&amp;G<\/em> source says it&#8217;s pretty dead on their casino floor &#8230; Continuing to play down to the level of their opponents, the <strong>Las Vegas Raiders<\/strong> got waxed by the inferior <strong>Washington Football Team<\/strong>, not even covering the spread. Owners the <strong>San Manuel Band of Mission Indians<\/strong> got the green light last week to operate in <strong>Nevada<\/strong>, too &#8230; Out goes a defunct shopping mall. In comes a two-tower, <strong>Hard Rock<\/strong>-branded casino-hotel. We&#8217;re glad &#8230; <strong>Seminole Hard Rock<\/strong> in <strong>Hollywood<\/strong>, <strong>Florida<\/strong>, will soon be complemented with <strong>Wyndham Dolce Kosher House Hotel<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/therealdeal.com\/miami\/2021\/11\/29\/kosher-hotels-planned-near-seminole-hard-rock-hotel-casino\/\">open in time for Hanukkah next year<\/a>. Its features will include a &#8220;Sabbath elevator&#8221; that automatically stops on every floor, making up in observance what it lacks in speed &#8230; Good news for the future of <strong>Bally&#8217;s Las Vegas<\/strong> and <strong>Paris-Las Vegas<\/strong>: They&#8217;re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelweekly.com\/North-America-Travel\/2022-World-Series-of-Poker-site-change\">to be the latest home<\/a> for the <strong>World Series of Poker <\/strong>(bad news for The Rio and its future).
