Similarly, locals winnings of $241 million were up 7% from  the previous December and 10% higher than in 2019, while the statewide tally ($1.4 billion) vaulted 35% from 2019 &#8230; heretofore considered the Good Old Days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wall Street<\/strong> analysts are fretting whether this can carry into this year and next but, let&#8217;s face it, Big Gaming has had an awfully good run post-lockdown. If it cools off a bit that&#8217;s hardly cause for panic. Strip numbers last month were helped by tight holds and baccarat in  particular (22%). Casinos cleaned out the whales at baccarat, as win catapulted 50% on 18% more wagering. Tables were up 20% on 26% larger betting. Slots ($446 million) were up 10% on 9% more coin-in, just keeping ahead of increased play. We won&#8217;t get into the 2019 comparisons save to say they were mind-boggling, especially on baccarat (+197%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Laughlin<\/strong> missed out on the fun, being down 2.5% to $31.5 million, while <strong>North Las Vegas<\/strong> was becalmed at $25 million. <strong>Downtown<\/strong> jumped 10% to $76 million, <strong>Boulder Strip<\/strong> casinos climbed 6% to $68 million and miscellaneous <strong>Clark County <\/strong>hopped 8% to $148 million. <strong>Mesquite<\/strong> was up 3% to $16.5 million and like city <strong>Wendover<\/strong> jumped 14% to $25.5 million. <strong>Reno <\/strong>absorbed a blow, down 7% to $55 million but <strong>Sparks<\/strong> was up 6% to $15 million and <strong>Lake Tahoe<\/strong> brought in $16 million, a 3% improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"860\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Macao.jpg?resize=980%2C860&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-845633\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Macao-scaled.jpg?resize=1024%2C899&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Macao-scaled.jpg?resize=300%2C263&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Macao-scaled.jpg?resize=768%2C674&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Macao-scaled.jpg?resize=1536%2C1349&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Macao-scaled.jpg?resize=2048%2C1799&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Macao-scaled.jpg?resize=445%2C391&amp;ssl=1 445w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Macao-scaled.jpg?w=1960&amp;ssl=1 1960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Getting a double dose of good news<\/strong> this week was <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cdcgaming.com\/high-quality-assets-drive-high-wynn-bond-rating\/\">which enjoyed a boost<\/a> from <strong>Fitch Ratings<\/strong>, bestower of a BB- rating on Wynn bonds. The next day, <strong>J.P. Morgan<\/strong> analyst <strong>Joseph Greff <\/strong>lifted his price target on WYNN shares to $113 apiece, from $104. He also upped his cash-flow estimates for the company&#8217;s casinos. Whereas he previously had Wynn&#8217;s <strong>Macao<\/strong> casinos at $278 million in cash flow for 4Q23, he raised that to $291 million, similarly moving his projection on <strong>Wynncore<\/strong> from $229 million to $240 million. &#8220;<em>Our estimate change is underpinned by our belief that the luxury segment in LV is the best performing tier in that market and likely benefitted the most versus its LV Strip peers from the <strong>F1<\/strong> in November (which now feels so long ago)<\/em>,&#8221; Greff wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He continued that Macao-facing companies like Wynn had underperformed the gaming group at large over the past year, &#8220;<em>which we attribute to apathetic investor sentiment that emphasizes <strong>China<\/strong> macro\/geopolitical risk over healthy Macau fundamentals<\/em>.&#8221; But the one-two punch of the <strong>Super Bowl<\/strong> and the Chinese New Year creates an attractive environment for Wynn, as high-consumers remain inclined to spend.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-rounded\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"375\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/strat.jpg?resize=375%2C225&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-844374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/strat.jpg?w=375&amp;ssl=1 375w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/strat.jpg?resize=300%2C180&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>That tromping sound<\/strong> you hear is the <strong>Culinary Union<\/strong> steadily marching through <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong>&#8216; secondary and independent casinos, as they gradually fall into line with the new collective-bargaining agreement assented to by the Big Three. First to capitulate was <strong>The Strat,<\/strong> whose leadership had the clearest crystal ball back when labor talks were going down to the wire. <strong>Golden Entertainment<\/strong> was followed in quick succession by <strong>Hilton Grand Vacations<\/strong>. Although <strong>Circus Circus<\/strong> struck a deal on Jan. 27, sister property <strong>Treasure Island<\/strong> didn&#8217;t sign on the dotted line for another three days. It would be interesting to know what <strong>Phil Ruffin<\/strong>&#8216;s sticking point for the newer casino was. Succession clauses, perhaps? Ruffin has reportedly been mulling a resale of the pirate-themed property, which he captured for a bargain $770 million during the Great Recession. Latest to come to terms\u2014and the first in <strong>Downtown<\/strong>\u2014was the <strong>Plaza Hotel<\/strong>, which evidently wasn&#8217;t willing to push things to Friday&#8217;s strike deadline. That still leaves 10 casinos and some ornery owners (<strong>Tilman Fertitta<\/strong>, anyone?) to convince before Friday morning. In here it&#8217;s all together, but out there is a lot of shit going on.&#8221;<\/em> That&#8217;d be singer <strong>Rob Thomas<\/strong> of <strong>Matchbox 20<\/strong> running down the Boardwalk while in the midst of a performance at <strong>Hard Rock Atlantic City<\/strong> on January 13. Let&#8217;s hope Thomas&#8217; enthusiasm isn&#8217;t shared by casino patrons. Some younger blood would be particularly welcome: Our Atlantic City bureau reports that <em>&#8220;I would say that things were jumping at <strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong>, but many of the customers\u00a0 can barely jump off their walkers.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of senior citizens, it looks like Frasier Crane is bucking to be the Boardwalk&#8217;s resident celebrity. Having already grand marshal of the Winter Wonderland Parade last month, <strong>Kelsey Grammer <\/strong>is set to do similar honors for the St. Patrick&#8217;s Day parade. It will be a staggered rollout, with live-dealer games available in April and Internet poker still later &#8230; Elsewhere in the Bally&#8217;s empire, a revised rendering of <strong>Bally&#8217;s Chicago<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox32chicago.com\/news\/ballys-chicago-submits-revised-plan-casino-construction\">is already being circulated<\/a>. This strongly suggests that Bally&#8217;s braintrust knew their original design was a no-go sooner than they let on &#8230;  <strong>Genting Group<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>New York State<\/strong> subsidiary, <strong>Empire Resorts<\/strong>, is losing money. Solution? <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/genting-malaysia-doubles-down-on-empire-resorts\/\">Sink another $100 million <\/a>into the drain. It looks like Genting is playing for time, in hopes that it gets one of the coveted megaresort concessions. Zoning procedures would essentially be deemed null and void in Adams&#8217; dead-on-arrival proposal &#8230; In like a lion, out like a lamb. Such was the fate of <strong>Kasey Thompson<\/strong>&#8216;s attempt to bring the <strong>Bovada<\/strong>s of this world into <strong>California<\/strong> to run sports betting. Faced with intense tribal opposition, Thompson quietly struck his flag. But as long as patrons bend over and grab their ankles rather than take their business elsewhere, do you expect MGM to act differently? &#8220;Fees were adjusted to stay competitive in <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> and the gaming\/hospitality industry,&#8221; straight-facedly claimed <strong>KSNV-TV.<\/strong> It now costs an extra $37\/night for the sheer privilege of staying at decrepit <strong>Excalibur,<\/strong> which probably exceeds the face value of the room &#8230; It&#8217;s a stampede in <strong>Nebraska<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/omaha.com\/news\/state-regional\/new-nebraska-racetrack-casino-proposed-for-fremont\/article_785b4d50-b65b-11ee-be3c-b79b23ac7f94.html\">to get a racino<\/a>. Latest entrant? <strong>Fremont<\/strong>, which wants to add (at least) a seventh track to the six already  in operation in the Cornhusker State. Opponents want to see how the economic impact of the first six plays out before green-lighting a seventh &#8230; Just what the sports betting industry needs\u2014another doomed-to-fail competitor. <strong>Betr<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playusa.com\/betr-plans-launch-multiple-new-markets-2024\/\">plans to expand<\/a> beyond <strong>Pennsylvania <\/strong>and<strong> Ohio<\/strong> into<strong> Indiana<\/strong>, <strong>Colorado<\/strong>, and <strong>Kentucky<\/strong>. Players asked, &#8220;What&#8217;s a Betr?&#8221; The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playusa.com\/steve-friess-what-jake-pauls-betr-debacle-says-about-the-mobile-sportsbook-business\/\">blunder-prone company<\/a> has already pulled out of <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> without ever gaining a foothold &#8230; Poor <strong>Petersburg<\/strong>. It looks like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcwashington.com\/news\/local\/northern-virginia\/virginia-senate-committee-approves-bill-that-would-allow-casino-in-fairfax-county\/3525241\/\">it&#8217;s going to get aced out<\/a> of the last <strong>Virginia<\/strong> casino by <strong>Fairfax County<\/strong>. The fix appears to be in at the Lege, which gave Fairfax the preliminary go-ahead &#8230; Good news for <strong>Mohegan<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Inspire<\/strong> megaresort. Its hotel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamblinginsider.com\/news\/23956\/mohegan-inspire-entertainment-resort-announces-five-star-rating\">received a five-star rating<\/a> from the <strong>Korea Tourism Association<\/strong>. The casino remains silent but it is expected to be licensed by the end of March &#8230; Finally, in a sign of progress, a bill has been introduced in the <strong>Kansas<\/strong> Lege to ban smoking in Sunflower State casinos.
