Yeah, Beyoncé is a hard act to follow but who knew that Revel would fall so far, so fast? So enjoy this brief moment when things looked so very promising* … in the meantime, I’m running down leads on some oldies but goodies: the Klondike Sunset, the arson-ravaged Key Largo, scrapped Southern Highlands Casino and North Coast, plus a plethora of unrealized Station Casinos projects — with a cameo appearance by Michael Gaughan as The Man. S&G associate blogger Jeff_in_OKC paid us a visit recently. We shed half a tear for the fate of the Western Casino and had an excellent dinner at Ellis Island. No wonder the latter is a “Top Ten” regular in Las Vegas Advisor. For quality, quantity and price it’s super-strong.
* — I stumbled across this promotional film while looking for video clips of Dutch jazz singer Trijntje Oosterhuis, so the hand of Fate must have been at work.

In the BEST way possible, I must repeat what I said during our dinner: Ellis Island café makes me feel like this is what Las Vegas casino coffee shops were like in 1970. Service, price and quality are solid. Like something straight out of the movie “Casino”.
I thank the gambling Gods that you are back – I more day of having to look at Sen. Sweeney with his 1st grade teeth smile (after 15 days) & I was ready for an extra glass of wine
Sorry. I was in the hospital for a week and indisposed for a further week afterward. Still not 100% and am pondering some format changes for S&G. Five years of trying to cover the waterfront is enough. I hope to be more selective in the future.
On a happier note, it looks as though Donald Trump’s days of being a useful casino figurehead are well and truly behind us:

When professional wrestling fans are tired of your act, it’s time to hang up the combover and take the Trump name off the Taj Mahal.
Not sure why you people dislike Revel so much. It is the best A.C. has to offer. They don’t want small slot players or smokers and people like you don’t like it.
Dave, I hope that you are well.
I was at Revel this weekend and thankfully was not one of the dead bodies discovered in one of their hotel rooms. It really is a beautiful resort though. The restaurants were humming, the nightclub was jammed and the hotel was completely sold out. The casino on the other hand…empty. I really hope they can get their act together. Customer service, in general there, needs vast improvement. No one knows a thing about the hotel or where anything is.
The “Beast of the East” (Borgata) was firing on all cylinders and had an enormous amount of energy as you entered the place. The service there is unmatched anywhere else in AC.
I am glad you are feeling better. You have been doing this Gambling blog for a long time and everyone here appreciates it. Then you also write for LV Citylife and are acting in plays now so I don’t know how you can keep up with everything. Get some rest and do the best you can.
