A note of thanks; Going … going … Gore

As many of you know, Mount Charleston, on the distant outskirts of Las Vegas, is being consumed by a huge forest fire. Not only has the blaze threatened Siegel Group‘s Mount Charleston Lodge, it’s also displaced some of the many people who live on the mountain’s slopes. So it’s with gratitude that S&G notes that Cannery Casino Resorts is making hotel rooms available, free of charge, to refugees from the conflagration. Cannery co-owners William Paulos and William Wortman are to be praised for their public spirit. Well done, gentlemen, and thank you.

Here today, Gore tomorrow. Reports of anemic business at Eli Roth’s Goretorium were proven out July 1 when the Strip grue-a-thon filed Chapter 11, after 10 months in business, listing a 1:1 ratio of assets and liabilities. Maybe tourists to the Las Vegas Strip don’t like being made puking sick unless it’s from too much vodka. Since one of the creditors is the Nevada Department of Taxation, Goretorium should be afraid, be very afraid.

Congratulations to Pinnacle Entertainment‘s two Louisianacasinos, L’Auberge du Lac and L’Auberge Baton Rouge. Both were winners in the category of “Best Casino Category for Games, Entertainment,
Food & Memorable Experiences,” in a poll conducted by AAA‘s Southern Traveler Magazine. No wonder they’re killing the competition in their respective marketplaces.
