With as many as three Covid-19 vaccines on the way (Pfizer‘s seems to be the favorite horse in the race) and a new presidency two months away, things are looking up, according to people in the tourism industry. “I honestly feel like this may open up a better dialogue between countries,” University of New Haven hospitality expert Jan Jones told the Boston Globe. “That’s something that is so important to tourism … we had a president who was not seen as welcoming to visitors. I think that’s going to change under the Biden administration.” In the first year of Donald Trump‘s administration, tourism fell 4%, leading to the notorious “Trump Slump.” Major feeder markets slacked off and only Canada provided a bright spot. Between 2017-18, gains made during the Obama administration were reversed and a stagnation in U.S. tourism was certainly reflected in Las Vegas visitation and spending. Given all the rabid xenophobia emanating daily from the White House, who could blame tourists for trepidation? One of our leading sources of visitation, Mexico, was particularly demonized by The Donald.

Steve Wynn trying a comeback in Las Vegas would be greeted with headlines, and a long line of folks with legit grudges and issues… I remember well my first grudge, Wynn tried to steal tips from workers to give them to management, Scrooge would not dare try that, Fonzi would yield to a shark before he ever tried to steal money from families. I highly doubt Steve Wynn wants to re-hash his behaviors around female employee’s, trying to get a gaming license opens up so many cans of worms that local bait shops would go under. I fear that California Governor Newsome will close the outdoor card rooms, even though there have been no reports of outbreaks. Anecdotally I can report that I have been tested for Covid multiple times because of procedures in hospital operating rooms I have unfortunately needed, each time I have tested negative thankfully. I think if the mask rules are strictly adhered to, its safe to play poker outside with plexiglass partitions and no loopholes for “drinking”…
I thought Elaine was “Aged-out” from the board of Wynn. I did not read that she was selling her shares. Is that accurate?
Guru, you are right, I was wrong. I’ll have to double-check but I think Elaine got a waiver but stepped down anyway.
