… and his name is Gary Loveman. While the Harrah’s Entertainment CEO hasn’t left a paper trail, several of his top lieutenants — including veeps Jan Jones (governmental affairs), Rick Mazer (boss of the Flamingo, Harrah’s Las Vegas, Imperial Palace, O’Shea’s and Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Casino) and Marybel Batjer (public policy) — have blazed a veritable superhighway of documents laying out their effort to put a beatdown on mid-level managers who aren’t facilitating top management’s desire to get out the vote on behalf of beleaguered Sen. Harry Reid (D). Rising-star pundit Elizabeth Crum ferreted out this chain letter from Hell, which includes keeping tabs on which employees had voted and which hadn’t. Kinda takes “database marketing” to a whole ‘nother level, doesn’t it?

Disgusting!
I don’t like it, but I have a question:
Is there any indication that employees were told or “guided” as to whom to vote for?
FOX News!
I just watched the video. Although the blogger who broke the story said there appeared to be nothing illegal or unethical in the drive to get out the vote, and that there was no indication that employees were told to vote for Reid, the headline “… Pushed… To Get Employees To Vote For Reid.”
‘We distort, we deride.’
I echo American Gaming Guru’s sentiment, first word that came to mind. Disgusting.
I don’t blame Harrahs. The possibility of Nevada having a Senator that is not casino-friendly is scary. In Nevada this was an election of paramount importance to the entire country. Had Angle won it would have sent a message that being an excellent person is not a requirement to lead. The Republicans have already filed a complaint about this, and a wrist-slap will likely happen. Thanks Mr. Loveman. Those of us who value the Fourth Estate applaud your activism. Nevada was inches away from having a Senator who is and was perfectly willing to throw all Hispanics under the bus to win an election. That is disgusting!
Disgusting, yes, but always look on the bright side. With Reid still in the Senate and still Majority Leader, he can continue to work on tax and spend legislation to keep the economy in a funk, so that the desparate Las Vegas hotel and casino offers will continue to be fantastic for us visitors. He will also be a big target for the blame for many of the country’s problems, so that His fellow dumocrats and Obama will get another drubbing in the 2012 election. Thank you, Nevadans! (or is it Nevadians?)
You already tried that tune Jerry, and it did not strike a cord. Taxes were dropped, not raised under Obama. This whole notion that you can blame Obama and Reid for the Nations ills is simpleton thinking. The economy was crashing when Obama took office. He has done his best despite unprecedented lock-step obstruction by the Republicans. Just the fact that Republican casino-owners and businesspeople supported Reid so strongly is a great sign for the country as a whole. We need real leaders who are reality-based at a minimum. Angle is not reality-based. Maybe the Republicans will produce someone capable of beating Obama, but I have yet to see this person.
Hi Mike, I can understand your concern about Sharon Angle, and I’m no fan of hers, however, I’d just like to point out the philosophy of ‘winning at all costs’ or stepping over employees civil liberties in order to drive the corporations agenda is the main issue here.
Just because they may have been driving it to the perceived ‘best’ choice of some, does not mean it’s excusable.
Mike it is you who is following the Pied Piper, who blames everything on Bush and the GOP. Reid has been the Majority Leader and Pelosi the Speaker for nearly four years now. Their party is the one that has rejected GOP attempts to rein in FNMA and others with a big hand in the runaway housing and loan markets that were out of control. Frank and Dodd, who protected these agencies, had willing help from Reid and Pelosi. When the crisis came to a head, it was the Dems who overwhelmingly supported a bailout and protected their friends on Wall Street. Then when Obama took over and had a filibuster free Senate, the dems did everything wrong and have made this a protracted recession. You are the one with simpleton thinking. If you really think that all this can be blamed on the GOP, you need to open your eyes and ears to the truth.
Seems like you watch Sean Hannity alot Jerry. Your post was a Vegas-style buffet of GOP talking points. Please visit your history books and find that TARP bailouts happened under Bush, Boehner cried on the House floor and begged all to pass TARP, and that TARP was a huge success. The money has been paid back for the most part. Any Senate that includes Ben Nelson is not “fillibuster free”, Democrats don’t vote in lock-step blocks like the Republicans do since Obama took office. This meme you are pushing that Democrats caused the housing crises is also easily refuted by looking at a calander. The crises did not start in 2006 when the Dems won the House. From 2000 to 2006 the Republicans controlled both chambers and the White House, and not a single piece of legislation regarding Freddie and Fannie was introduced. Give Obama a chance Jerry, he has only had two years. He did inherit a gasbag economy and two unfunded wars.
Mike, I watch and read a wide variety of sources before I form opinions, and Hannity is not very high on my list. You, on the other hand, must find a new source since MSNBC canned Olbermann. You are so wrong on the Freddie and Fannie legislation. In 2003, John McCain introduced legislation to rein in Freddie and Fannie, only to have a majority of Democrats sink this attempt to corral these runaway agencies. As for Obama, it will be a miracle if we are not totally bankrupt in two more years under his leadership. By the way, did you hear that we are giving GM $45 Billion more, through some fine print in the legislation that the Dems passed. I am sure you read that when it was published on the internet for five days before Obama signed it. Speaking of wars, notice how Obama, after voting and speaking against the Iraq surge, took credit for it and did the same thing, eventually with the same General, in the Afghanistan war? (except he withheld 1/3 of the requested troops, to put his own signature on it). We gave Obama a chance, he blew it.
Good morning Jerry! McCains 2003 bill never made it out of Commitee, and that was a Commitee under Republican control in a Republican Congress under a Republican President. Give the old McCain some credit, he used to be quite the bipartisan guy until he tacked so hard right. It would have been quite a sight to see politicians try to reign in lenders in the middle of a housing boom in 2003, wow! I say this meme being pushed that minorities and poor people getting houses caused the crash is malarkey. The banks were and are promoting derivitive gambling that would make Steve Wynn blush. Jerry, do you think GM is going to make 45 billion in profit this year? This “giving” you refer to is a tax break on profits designed to intice investors. I honestly am saddened by the politicizing of the American auto industry. All of a sudden the Republicans have decided we don’t need an auto industry because they hate unions so much IMHO. We do need an auto industry, it employs alot of Americans. I despise corporate welfare myself, but America does not subsidize it’s auto industry like most countries do. Have a nice day Jerry!
BTW Jerry I would like to point out that war is hell. And truly hellish when the entire premise is built on a baloney sandwich. Not to mention that the baloney is unbudgeted. Obama has disappointed me in the way he is handling both unfunded and unjust wars. Credit schmedit. Obama needs to bring the great men and women home. And I mean now!
