In 50 years, I’ve managed to outlive a number of institutions, ranging from the Berlin Wall to the Gold Standard. Some news outlets are commemorating the occasion, including The Alyona Show, which seems to be the libertarian equivalent to Countdown or The O’Reilly Factor. (The rhapsodic treatment of
Rep. Ron Paul [R-TX] leaves no doubt regarding the host’s leanings.) Everyone will find something with which to disagree but I get a kick from the program’s curmudgeonly attitude, especially when it emanates from a relative youngster. The fact that Russia Today provides her platform necessitates a caveat emptor but the heterodox attitude of Alyona Minkovski gives the institution-revering tendencies of network TV a needed kick in the tuchus.
