PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo.
Sheldon Adelson and Steve Wynn are huge admirers of the despotic government of China, which censors the Internet wholesale. So I’m sure they just lurve this particularly piece of legislation, which would curb your and my ability to use a technology (“the Internets”) created with our taxpayer dollars. A trip to the airport now entails examinations that stop just this side of strip-searching. The Senate is all hot and heavy for a bill that would allow the military to detain American citizens without due process. Compared to those infringements, “SOPA” might seem like small beer. But it could seriously crimp the content you’re able to enjoy via this site or Two Way Hard Three or Vegas Tripping (and its many offspring), Vegas Today and Tomorrow, Dr. David G. Schwartz‘s various blogs and so forth. (Imagine Dr. Dave not being able to illustrate one of his typically trenchant observations with on-topic Star Trek footage.) Given the potential for making life miserable for small, online competitors, I’m sure the U.S. casino industry is going to love it … if Congress magnanimously permits it to partake of online poker. Big Gaming won’t have had so much fun since the days when, rather than develop new game content, slot makers’ Plan A was to sue the competition to death. Then consolidation put a stop to all that fun, so I’m sure the potential for new IP mischief has gaming interests and their lawyers in a froth of anticipation.
