“Do not go and take that money and have fleet feet and go on vacation or go to Las Vegas or Atlantic City.” — Suze Orman, on what you should do with your tax refund. I wonder if she’ll get pilloried for that remark, particularly with consumers taking a more cautious approach to gambling. (So much for that Wall Street shibboleth, “pent-up demand.”) However, the money quote in that Los Angeles Times story is “tourists said they spent more on food, shopping, sightseeing and hotel rooms in 2011 than in 2010.” The more that restaurants, retail and rooms are profit centers, the less money that will trickle down to the casino floor.

What a load of … NOTHING !! This, like Obama’s comment, is actually beneficial to us. ‘Las Vegas’ in each case is the metaphor for frivolous self indulgence. Isn’t this what the LVCVA spends millions trying to accomplish?
This indeed is “NOTHING”… People make vacation and financial decisions based on their personal situations, not on what anyone else says, even the POTUS. Oscar Goodman sullied himself when he went Rambo after Obama for his comment.
Sullied, indeed! Fortunately, like his former clientele, Oscar only shoots his own feet. Actually, I like him. I’ve known the Goodmans (casually) since Carolyn was an executive secretary extraordinaire at Caesars. Oscar is like an elaborate, ornate kite, who flies highest when he’s generating his own wind, & she’s the tail that keeps him (mostly) stable.
