Isle knows how to sell it; “Gamming” at the Cosmo

If you’ve been watching casino-preview videos for the last dozen years, you’ve become inured to all the usual tropes, including the de rigeur, 3-D flyby and the glowing executive testimonials. Give Isle of Capri Casinos credit for realizing that the format has been done to death. They’ve taken all the stock elements, sliced and diced them like a Benihana chef, and the result is this very nimbly edited and fast-paced promo. It doesn’t introduce anything new into the montage so much as intermix all those familiar ingredients in a way that holds your attention. The assured and speedy patter of Isle Casino Cape Girardeau General Manager Chet Koch, a true industry veteran.

What you don’t want in a spot like this is bored-looking COO Arnold Block saying wanly, “We’ve got the energy.” Uh, no, it doesn’t appear that you do, sir. Get that man an espresso, stat! But kudos to Isle for choosing an unobtrusive — but scarcely bland — design that ought to blend into the surrounding community. And whatever challenges Isle faces, capitalizing on social media isn’t one of them. They’re of that generation and, unlike some very major casino companies, don’t act like they’ve been dragged into the Twitterverse kicking and screaming.

Arcane amenity at Cosmo. While keeping his gimlet eye upon The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas (on pace for 2% ROI this year), trusty @JohnUnwinning discovered a thrilling, new addition to the second-floor lineup: “High-Limit Gamming“! Could this be another chi-chi boutique offering Euro-ware? Some high-calorie and novel form of Chinese cuisine? Oh, wait a minute …  perhaps you mean “gaming” — that minor department that actually saw a tiny decline from Year One to Year Two? Well, it’s not the first time that the Cosmo’s literacy has been found wanting. Just ask those “hot chics [sic]” who couldn’t get to Marquee without a limousine.
