It’s history in the (un)making: The fastest transition from winner to “loser” in the American epoch. Even Sheldon Adelson‘s associates at Crossroads GPS are getting the hell out of Dodge.

This fella won’t be on Romney’s Christmas Card list. The Republican Party Platform calls for a Constitutional Amendment to ban all abortions without exceptions, so this is mainstream in the right wing. Now it’s front and center for all of America to digest. Rep. Paul Ryan co-sponsored HR3 with Akin, which tried to re-define rape into categories.
I don’t know how Akin managed to screw up a likely win but he did it. I believe all 3 Republican primary candidates were polling as winners over McCaskill, but the religious zealot that is Akin has managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I’m as Republican as you can get and I found Akin to be a little much before this episode. He’s won his House seat virtually unopposed in my district If he does get forcibly (read: financially) removed, Missouri might be able to kill two birds with one stone and get rid of Akin and McCaskill.
Political ramifications aside, I can’t stop wondering, how many rapists beat the rap in communities where Akins’ beliefs are widely held.
An excellent — albeit depressing — point you have made, Cortez.
Hopefully, the ‘teaching moment’ will hasten the mindset’s demise. Then if we can only convince them that the earth IS getting warmer, not flatter.
Only with regular people like us, cortez. The right wing politicians get tons of money and support from the religious zealots, so they will continue to push for laws that only tiny minorities can support. Sunlight and dialog are the only tonics to cure that kind of extremism…
AMEN! (pun intended)
