Due to an as-yet-inexplicable malfunction in our blogging software, all comments, regardless of provenance — yes, even mine — are shunted directly into “Spam.” Since I no longer receive notification of the arrival of a comment that may require moderation (a safeguard to keep spammers at bay), I have to irregularly go into “Spam” and fish out your comments. Hence the delayed gratification factor when a well-composed mini-essay on, for example, the Columbus casino saga doesn’t appear until hours after you’ve posted it. All I can do at this moment is promise to keep working the problem from our end (the software designer, a Dutchman, has been of no assistance whatsoever) and hope you don’t feel shut out of the discussion.
On another note, I continue to warily circle the issue of the Station Casinos reorganization proposal as one might approach a temporarily drowsy elephant (bringing back visions of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom). What I think about the matter is one thing; what I feel at liberty to say by way of analysis is something else, although the appointment/imposition of former Wall Street analyst Marc Falcone as CFO is what a certain tyrant of domesticity would call A Good Thing.
Mr. Las Vegas. I do believe I have a new top recommendation for entertainment in Sin City (unless you can afford Garth Brooks tickets, that is). After endless procrastination on my part, I finally experienced George Wallace‘s show at the Flamingo and to say that it did not disappoint is an understatement. Wallace is personable and does a hilarious, freewheeling “hour” that on this occasion morphed into 90 minutes of off-the-cuff comedy … and I say this as someone who goes to standup shows with an air of dread. As with Brooks, Wallace gives you the feeling he could riff on any tangent at any given moment. And, with both shows, give-and-take with the audience is integral to what makes it work. If you need to unwind at the end of a day on the Strip, Wallace is what the doctor ordered.

George Wallace show:
Just out of curiosity, I searched out some reviews of his Vegas show. I won’t go into them here, but a couple of people recommended that you can get in for less than the $60-ish ticket price:
“Dont pay full price for the tickets, because you can get them at any 1/2 price dealer (Coke Bottle and place next to Harley place and across from soon to be CITY CENTRE”
Just sayin’.
