At the moment, I’m neck-deep in Question of the Day duties but will be taking a break to check out the new, new-look Downtown Grand. That will include the opportunity for some face time with new CEO Jim Simms. So, as happens whenever S&G gets a chance to talk to a CEO, I’m throwing open the floor to your questions. So if you have queries you’d like to put to Simms about operating downtown, the Grand and its newest marketing strategy, drop me a line and I’ll ask it, God willing.

Ref The Grand, I have to say they need to institute a locals style of gaming. Take care of your locals and they will come. Full-pay VP, respectable comps, and a players card that FULLY explains the new tier levels and what it takes to get a point to move a up! Need to really contact whoever was handling The Palms when it first started with the pay schedules, comps, etc. … And what’s up with the S+O eatery?? Tell Mr. Simms to have a mystery diner eat there with a couple people and see how long it takes to get their grub and how the quality is. Ate there six months or so ago and there were four tables taken. Had a simple breakfast and took over 40 mins to get something that should take less than 10-15 minutes. Ordered the cheese stix and it was a breaded stick with the thinnest coating of cheese on the inside of the breading. I showed the bartender and he just shook his head. Told him “I’m not a big fan of cheese flavored breading.” He didn’t say anything and tossed me another beer. I like going there but if you can’t get off the Strip mentality they will close down real soon. It’s downtown off of Fremont!! Really need figure something out. Thanks!!
