Once again The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is being portrayed as the bad boy of Las Vegas Strip resorts when it comes to taking Covid-19 seriously. A headline in today’s Daily Beast reads, “Maskless gamblers. Verbal abuse. Infected colleagues. Workers at the Cosmopolitan say they’re scared to do their jobs—and their bosses aren’t doing enough to protect them.” Previously, the Los Angeles Times paid the Cosmo a visit and discovered a similar, if not quite so dire, scenario. Is Cosmo management really as derelict as media coverage would have us believe? Some of the players are certainly pigs, such as the ones who called pit boss ‘Lindsey’ such endearments as “little white cunt” and “stupid fucking bitch” when she asked them to don face masks, as Nevada regulations require. She told The Daily Beast, “I’ve heard players saying that they like Cosmo better since we opened, because we have the fewest rules.” (Perhaps the Nevada Gaming Control Board should take an interest.)

The very short term “gain” the Cosmopolitan might feel they are getting by being lax will have a terrible long term outcome, once you are stained by what looks like greed its going to be tough to get folks back in once the virus situation improves… The Cosmo has a fabulous location, most visitors do end up in that area, a lot of folks watch the Bellagio fountains show and end up inside the Cosmopolitan, I read the entire Daily Beast article this morning, Las Vegas does not benefit when the casinos get this terrible publicity. I am reminded of the OJ Simpson situation, when that went down I told everyone who listened to my opinions that OJ was going to do serious jail time, Nevada casinos can not afford to have armed robbers in its resort hotels. People scoffed, they thought OJ would walk free again, but I was correct, Vegas needed to project strength, they needed tourists to feel safe there. This virus danger denial is going to leave a mark, Sheldon Adelson even knows this, shame on the Cosmo for prolonging the misery…
Bad behavior in AC also. At Hard Rock, we saw a security guard ask people walking by to wear their masks, response was shouting racial insults at him. At Golden Nugget’s outdoor (former) bus depot Chairman lounge, several drink servers and a table clearing person didn’t have masks covering their noses; the GN signs require full face masks. Our not so beloved Gov Murphy still requires outside dining only.
