Anyone besides me remember Foster Brooks? Nothing reminds me of him so much as Jeff Bridges‘ unintelligible reinterpretation of Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, the main difference being that Brooks is far easier to understand. Seriously, just watch two hours of old Foster Brooks clips and you’ve as good as seen the latest pretentious cow-plop from the Coen Bros. (but had more fun in the process). Stop them before they film again!

I don’t think I could sit thru 2 hours of Foster Brooks, maybe 3-4 minutes, at most.
I guess I will never understand the undying love and affection given to ‘The Big Lebowski’ by its many admireres, and I admit that the Coen Brothers remake of ‘The Ladykillers’ is the only movie that I have ever walked out of at a theater (though I should have walked out on ‘Magnolia… That was awful).
That being said, in an era where Michael Bay is still paid millions to make crap like ‘Transformers’ part whatever, and in a time where I hear there is going to be a sequel made to ‘Big Mama’s House’ this year, it seems a bit harsh to be calling for the collective heads of the brothers Coen for atrocities committed against the art of film… And don’t even get me started on Adam Sandler movies…
The Coen brothers don’t hit home runs with every film. After Fargo and Lebowski they can put out anything and I will watch it. Same with Jeff Bridges. He is “The Dude” to millions of us. I would never pee on his rug.
If you remember Foster, then you’ll also remember Crazy Gugenheim on the Jackie Gleason Show. But he could certainly sing! As I type this I’m still trying to remember his real name…it…OH, now I remember – Frank Fontaine. Jack of course was Joe the Bartender.
After Fargo and The Big Lebowski, the Coen bros can film their kids at a piano recital and I would go.
