Las Vegas closed through April 30

Jottings: Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) is asking Donald Trump to declare the Silver State a ‘major disaster’ area. We agree, but Trump is being punitive toward ‘blue’ states so we doubt Sisolak will get his wish. The governor extended his shelter-in-place order, meaning casinos will be unable to reopen before May 1. Sisolak also activated the National Guard … “Spare a thought in these troubling times for the Mafia,” reports Casino.org, “whose traditional revenue streams—illegal gaming and extortion—have been blunted by the coronavirus crisis” … Terry Caudill is taking advantage of the shutdown to put in new rails and felts at the Binion’s Gambling Hall table games. “They look so welcoming and pretty,” enthuses Binion’s. Yes, they do … The Lights Up Las Vegas auto parade turned out to be more April Fool’s joke than gesture of defiance. The caravan from the south Strip to Fremont Street was meekly canceled last night … Electric Daisy Carnival is being pushed back from May 15-17 to Oct. 2-4. We don’t know how hoteliers feel about that, as they have the reputation of being unwelcoming to the drug-friendly EDC crowd … If you want a bargain-basement stock, try Eldorado Resorts. It’s down over 75% since the start of the year … Finally, a bit of good news: Wynn Resorts is continuing benefits for its employees (even part-timers) for an additional fortnight. Sounds like they’re prepared for the long haul.
