Here, for your viewing pleasure, is Archon Corp. Treasurer Sue Lowden‘s newest ad spot. I saw it on the tube this morning and was struck by the euphemistic way it gets around having to describe her as a “casino executive,” like it’s something of which to be ashamed. My guess is it’s a very large sop to Nevada’s very large Latter-Day Saints populace.
There are some people (who could be atheists for all I know) who live here yet love to log onto the Review-Journal and Sun Web sites every doggone day to rail about how eeeeeeeeevil Las Vegas is and how they can’t wait for the Great Recession to drive the tourists away and bring everything crashing down. It’s all very perverse and masochistic. If that’s the mindset to which Lowden is pandering, I don’t think she’s got anybody fooled. She’s been on the scene too long and been far too prominent.
Just say, “I’m Sue and I’m a casino executive.” The truth will set you free.

Maybe she’s afraid she’d have to explain what she does at the company. I’m more interested in how many jobs she, or her company, have created. Ever. I’m guessing that the casinos her husband own(ed) never had more employees than when he bought them. Of course, I could br wrong, and they are great people to work for. In which case her tag line could be “I’m a better boss than Margaret Elardi!”
The ad agency who put this commercial together did a very good job with the commercial. It is interesting that she did not mention her former job as a casino executive and I think you might be correct in that she wants to distance herself from her past.
Part of the reason might be all of the negative comments that I occasionally read about Murren, Loveman, Adelson, etc. where people comment after the articles. Mrs. Lowden probably does not want to get lumped in with the casino executives who supposedly caused most of the problems in Las Vegas today.
It’s a tossup as to whether you or Ralston are more in the pocket of the corrupt Reid Crime Family.
Agreed, it’s a very, very good ad spot (and I’m glad Lowden HQ ditched the nonsensical “Real jobs for real people” slogan.) Alas for Ms. Lowden, the newest polls show her trailing Danny Tarkanian by 3%, although that may have as much to do with Lowden still being Satan incarnate to the Ron Paul wing of the NV GOP as it does with Tark’s superior name recognition.
Danny’s mom, Lois, also keeps the family name in the news, mainly by being a conscientious, hard-working LV city councilwoman and friend of the little guy. Admirable politicians are in short supply but Mrs. Tarkanian is one of the best we have out here.
The “real jobs for real people” slogan is still used by Lowden. The “real people” she and her husband have hired are paid some of the most lousiest wages in the state and I would not call them “real jobs” either.
I don’t think that being a former beauty queen who married to money and got her title handed to her that way really makes Sue such an executive. We saw her real leadership ability in real action when she wrecked the state GOP under her direction.
