Another of my cats crossed the proverbial Rainbow Bridge today, ending 14 years of faithful companionship. Our vet says we did the right thing but that doesn’t lessen the sense of betrayal, even though Mr. Bit could no longer eat without pain and was losing the ability to stand upright. His once-mighty haunches had completely atrophied and my chubby little pal was a wisp of his youthful self. I choose to mark his passing with this photo, taken a few weeks ago, as it seems to express where he was at that moment: leaving the material world and heading into Eternity.
Thanks for the adventure, pal. We’ll lift a glass to you tonight at Todd English P.U.B. (A hideous coinage, no?) Your lovably obstreperous personality can never be replaced and will always be missed.

Sad.
It never ends any other way, either you outlive them or they outlive you. Sounds like the boss of the house has left, though. 🙁
rest in peace Mr. Bit, my sympathies to your household David.
It is horrible to do, even though you though you kmow it was the right thing-my heart goes out to you–I loved the stories you told about him, and the pix you posted–he will be missed by all your readers
Sounds like he was a true George. My condolences.
I’ve been dreading this news, but you and Mr. Bit had the good fortune of enjoying each other for 14 years.
Condolences to you on the loss of Mr. Bit. You did do the right thing, but that doesn’t make it any easier. Although I never met him, I too shall lift a glass in memory of Mr. Bit tonight with a round of treats to each of my critters in his honor. It sounds like he was a real character.
I had to put my beloved cat to sleep 2 years ago tomorrow, while I still miss him terribly, I know that it was the right thing to do.
My condolences on our loss.
My sincere condolences on your loss. Rest assured,no matter how hard the decision was, you’ve done the right thing for Mr. Bit, and he will be waiting to thank you for it when you see him again at the Rainbow Bridge.
When I hear people say “It’s JUST a cat” I have to bite my tongue to choke back the outrage. They give us love, companionship, entertainment and affection. In a lot of ways they are easier than dealing with your own kids. R.I.P. Mr. Bit. You will be missed!
From all of us at The Petcast, we’re so sorry for your loss. 🙁
He’s gone to the land of unlimited kitty RFB, and he isn’t hurting any more. I’m sure he’s putting in a good word for you right now.
Many people can’t figure out how these “critters” become one of the kids and a big part of the family. I now have a dog and 2 cats and when they go they will leave a big hole in my heart as others have in the past. Slainte Mr. Bits and know that your passing didn’t go un-noticed.
My condolences to your family. Rest in peace, Mr. Bit.
I’m sure Mr. Bit is at a better place now. My condolences. 🙁
I’m so sorry to hear about Mr. Bit’s passing. Take care.
I met Mr. Bit a few weeks ago. He was still strikingly beautiful, with a regal presence. I wonder what he must have been like in his youth. Regardless of how full a life he lived, it is still a tremendous loss for you, David. Our condolceces
I am deeply saddened to hear about Mr. Bit. My condolences.
