Sorry, PR folks, but how many decades has it been since a Carrot Top sighting was news? In other breaking events, the sun rose this morning. And, if my eyes don’t deceive me, there’s been some serious attrition in the Tropicana Las Vegas‘ Dancing with the Stars cast. Say not so, Alex Yemenidjian!

How much longer until the Trop goes under?
A casual stroll through some of the south strip casinos last Sunday evening revealed the following traffic:
MGM, NYNY, MBAY and EXCAL [kiddieville]: All those properties were busy! The TROP, on the other hand, was DEAD. Casino was slooooow and the retail shops were closing up at 2030 and the restaurants were happily serving about half dozen tables combined at their restaurants.
I then went to pick up the wife at the airport and this place was a zoo! Major traffic at the passenger pickup area. According to the wife: several airport personnel were commenting that they had never seen a Sunday night so busy. I guess the Trop didn’t get that message.
Two weeks ago my brother and I walked from Bellagio to the Trop to play $5 minimum craps, it was a weeknight. To our utter shock the only table was completely empty. As we walked up I told him the minimum must be $10, and I was right. The croupier tried to entice us, but I told her we don’t play $10 minimum, and that having such a high minimum in a place like the Trop is absurd. She shrugged her shoulders in agreement. The remodel is nice inside, but it aint no Cosmo. Excalibur of course had $5 craps, so they got the business. Trop needs to admit to itself that it can’t compete with the $10 minimum places that have vibes going on. And the white on white look of the exterior makes it look like a tall insane asylum…
Zing! Good one, Miike.
If the Trop’s ‘DWTS’ weren’t already on its way out (closing 8/5), the defection of co-hosts Joey Fatone and Carson Kressly or Sabrina Bryan or Kyle Massey (the two best celebrity dancers in the show) to ABC’s fall “All-Star” season would have written *finis* to the enterprise. It was an idea worth trying … but obviously not at the Trop. Perhaps we can still hope for a resident company of “Burn the Floor” on the Strip.
