Park MGM re-closes; Gaming’s 2020 mandate

  • Virginia: In Portsmouth, the winner is Rush Street Gaming (each ballot candidate came with an operator pre-attached. Caesars Entertainment scores the Danville market, two hours from Charlotte and set to open in 2023 at a cost of $400 million. We’ve already mentioned the Pamunkey Indian Tribe in Norfolk, which leaves Bristol, where Hard Rock International will be setting up shop.
  • Maryland doesn’t have a set number of ‘skins,’ nor a tax rate (which will probably be high) but MGM, Caesars, Golden Entertainment, Churchill Downs and maybe even Penn National Gaming are all positioned to compete for the sports-betting audience.
  • In Louisiana it’s a waiting game, as we have to dance attendance upon the 2021 Lege as it ponders sports-betting regulations for this newly created industry.
  • Nebraska: Tribes are the winner and some casinos in Iowa could be the loser as money stays in the Cornhusker State.
  • Colorado: Caesars, Penn and Monarch Casinos all stand to benefit from the removal of loss limits.
