“When times are tough, you tighten your belts. You don’t go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don’t blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you’re trying to save for college.” — President Barack Obama, in New Hampshire today. Sounds like old-fashioned folk wisdom (and, except for the Vegas bit, it’s standard-issue Jim Gibbons rhetoric) but just wait for Nevada politicians to start demanding en masse that the prez retract his remarks and say that splurging in Las Vegas should take priority over the college fund — or something comparably silly.

Maybe the Prez was talking about buying a condo in one of Vegas’s “premiere resorts” last year.
Oh, wait – that IS blowing a bunch of cash…
Never mind.
It was a stupid remark by the President. He should have generically said ” on vacation” rather than “in Vegas” and his point would have been made. If he had said “at Disney World”, you can bet the tourist industry and politicians in Florida would have been upset as well. The Prez tries so hard to be glib, he says dumb things.
You don’t get it… The President should be encouraging Americans to spend their discretionary money in the USA, and not abroad…. Your ‘politicians’ are correct this time….
Don’t forget, the recreational boating industry is going to be pissed too!

Let’s see the new budget will add 1 trillion a year for ten years to the deficit. The U.S. for the 1st time in it’s history may slip out of a AAA credit rating to the world. Ms. Polosi uses military air for her and her family to the tune of 1 mil a quarter. Yep there’s some real belt tightning going on by this administration.
