“Democracy isn’t the objective; liberty, peace, and prospefity [sic] are. We want the human condition to flourish. Rank democracy can thwart that.”—Sen. Mike Lee.

I think the Senator is saying that election results he deems as unsatisfactory should be overturned if fellow elites agree with him, that the people in power get to decide what is best for us regular folks… I must have been absent in high school civics class when that concept was explained…
Senator Lee’s two sentence quote shows the essence of why we have a Republic instead of a Democracy. Those who missed their civics class or slept through it should go back and read the Constitution, especially the preamble. If we had a Democracy we would all be governed by the whims of the majority of the people who live in California, New York, and Florida. Thank God we have a Republic.
The words “Democracy” and “Republic” are just that, words, semantics… The people vote for their representation, that is our part. Mike Lee has his opinions, but his opinions do not mean he or anyone can overturn the will of the voters. Never before have we had a President who questions the legitimacy of elections before we even have them. I personally think the people will clearly send Washington DC a message, and that they are not going to like it much in the White House and Senate. This rural/urban divide you speak of Jerry was not a thing when the Constitution was drafted in the 1700’s. If Donald Trump and Mike Lee have ideas about election laws on the books, let them legislate new ones or litigate them in court. Unfortunately for them the 50 states run their own elections, Nevada is a perfect example, Trump tried to overturn their rules and lost in court… Good luck, I am sure both you and I will vote, as we and everyone else should…
Clearly, Sen. Lee is speaking of the electoral college and the controversy raised by the liberals over it. Sen. Lee brings that discussion back to the Constitution and explains briefly what and why that provision exists. Unfortunately, Mr. Alexakis doesn’t seem to understand this and goes off into his own rant about overturning the will of the voters and then addresses me personally (I thought David McKee said this was a “no-no”). The Electoral College is part of the Constitution, not a legislated election law of the states.
Jerry, Mike, you’ve made your points very clearly. Let’s consider this discussion closed.
