“No, we’re here to look at the art.” — sightseers, to a doorman in the North Valet area of Aria who’d asked if the couple was there to pick up a car. It’s a sentence probably not often heard heretofore in the casino industry.

Is it wrong to go and appreciate the art and architechture of the newer properties? Some have magnificent pieces on display.
Personally, I’d say it is a very good thing.
Sorta none of my business, but:
– Who owns the artworks at Aria?
– Are they some of the stuff that MGM/Mirage got when they bought Wynn’s Mirage company?
– Given that Steve Wynn worked a deal to avoid a bunch of taxes on some of his “personal” artworks that were “donated” to the Mirage for “public viewing”, did that collection go to MGM when they bought the Mirage?
– Did MGM pay taxes on the collection?
If MGM/Mirage did not pay taxes on each painting on display at Aria, would I get in trouble if I calculated the amount of “taxes owed” for it, and attached a yellow $$ sticker to the frame?
🙂
In order: MGM Mirage; no; no; probably not, as the Wynn collection closed as soon as the takeover did; yes, but it probably wouldn’t be worse than the way they’ve misplaced some of the explanatory plaques.
