I’ll be spending late Wednesday with a hardhat atop my noggin, as I get a tour of the ongoing makeover at the Tropicana Las Vegas. The two big, outdoor signs have already been replaced, the marquee (left) is getting a new look and a sports book is going into one of the low-rise motel wings. (Anything would be an improvement on the seedy cubbyhole that was the Trop’s old excuse for a sports book.) The Tiffany Theater is enjoying a reprieve whilst Paul Rodriguez plays an extended engagement there … and not a moment too soon, as the Trop only has the de rigeur “naughty hypnosis” show in the way of entertainment now.
Expect a fuller report and — with luck — some photos later this week.

You must be the second luckiest guy alive. Getting behind the scenes tours of Las Vegas Strip casinos? Things I can only dream of.
Excellent, looking forward to the Tropicana info.
The Tropicana sports book was in a bad location and extremely small. With some new restaurants and new nightclubs the Tropicana has a great opportunity to market their property to mid-market consumers. They have a great location and convenient parking (the parking lot off of Tropicana Avenue between the Strip and Koval is a good place to park). Have a good tour, hopefully they will allow you to take some pictures.
I was only there once, years & years ago; I was staying over at the Hacienda. I thought it was pretty fancy.
I read where they’re taking out the stained glass ceiling. Why, and are they going to preserve it somewhere?
